This is the last book of the series! I am very glad my wife, Nina (not the Nina from the book), suggested the author to me. When I did my research on the author and the books itself, I was intrigued. It hit my criteria: police thriller with a location of Minnesota. Minnesota, especially the weather, is a great character as it creates some funny banter and situations for all of the other characters. I have read all of John Sanford’s Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers books which also are police thrillers that take place in Minnesota. I am planning on reading William Kent Krueger’s Cork O’Connor books that are police thrillers that take place in Minnesota (am I sounding like a broken record?). In one of Housewright’s books, McKenzie is reading a William Kent Krueger book.
After you finish reading a series, how do you feel? For me, it’s like I am losing a friend. So, yeah, I was sad when I finished this book, but then full of joy when I saw that the next book (which is scheduled to be released in June of this year) is available on NetGalley to read now for members. I immediately logged in and downloaded it and am reading it now.
As for Them Bones, remember The Taking of Libbie, SD where McKenzie is tasered and kidnapped across state lines from MN to Libbie, South Dakota. He survives that ordeal, and eventually comes back to Libbie (as he needs to catch an imposter who took his identity and name). While there for the 2nd time, he is taken across states lines again and stranded. A nice young woman named Angela rescues him and McKenzie gives her and her family money.
Well, Angela is back, and she needs his help as somebody has stolen dinosaur bones. He reprises his role of Nick Dyson. Of course, he figures it out, and I enjoyed the adventure. One of my favorite things about McKenzie is he very often talks to himself and answers!
