The Monkey’s Raincoat (Elvis Cole, #1) – by Robert Crais

Posted on 12/11/202503/27/2026 by Mark Lieberman

I finished all the Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers books by John Sandford and just read the most recent Spenser book by Mike Lupica. I had the Harry Bosch and Lincoln Rhymes first books in my want to read list, and tried them, but just couldn’t get into them. So, I googled similar books to John Sanford, and this one came up.

The description was promising, and if I liked it, there are many more books to read in the series.

Elvis Cole is a licensed private investigator in LA and his partner is Joe Pike. Cole has a confident demeanor and uses his sense of humor al lot (just like Spenser). Pike, on the other hand, is not licensed, but is used for his guns and enforcement. They work very well together (just like Spenser and Hawk).

The action, the dialogue, and the overall flow of the book was great. Overall, I enjoyed it, and am already on book 2.
