Brothers – by Alex Van Halen

Posted on 01/21/202503/27/2026 by Mark Lieberman

I tried this book a few weeks ago, and just couldn’t get into it. But, I tried again this past weekend, and I really enjoyed it. It was a beautifully written story about the love he shared with his brother and the band itself. I had no clue their dad was a musician, the family (Alex and Eddie included) immigrated to the states, and both brothers were drawn to music at an early age.

It was a quick read and I was glad as some other books I have read are very detailed about every record and song ever written by that particular group. Yes, do we learn how the band got there name, how David Lee Roth came to the band, how the band got started, and some insight to their first few studio recordings and albums.

I liked the stories Alex told of being on the road. Scattered throughout the book are also quotes from Eddie Van Halen as well as other key members of the band and production team.
