Niko’s Birthday

Posted on 05/05/202403/13/2026 by Mark Lieberman

Niko had a few requests for his birthday last Thursday, and we happily obliged.

First, he wanted cupcakes and cookies to bring to school for his class. Thanks to HEB, the local grocery store as Nina picked up a few items along with cupcakes and cookies on Wednesday. Of course, when Niko came home from school that afternoon, he wanted a cookie!

For dinner on his birthday, he wanted meatballs and spaghtetti. Thanks to Nina for making meatballs and boiling water and then putting pasta in it.

For lunch on his birthday, Nina and I had lunch with him at school. I packed a lunch that included chicken tenders, meatballs, honey dew, brownie brittle (from my birthday food stash), cheez-its, mini peanut butter crackers, and a chocolate milk. Niko ate everything and had a grand time showing off his happiness!

When he came home from school, Nina already had his 8-shaped chocolate cake lighted with a ton of candles and his gifts were arranged and wrapped and waiting to be torn open.

Two of his gifts, were short sleeve t-shirts with a black cat on them. I washed them the night before, so Thursday morning, he could choose which one to wear. No, he hasn’t suddenly started wearing short sleeve t-shirts. He actually wears a long sleeve thin cotton button down shirt over it, but he leaves the buttons unbuttoned! We did get him several more long sleeve shirts a few weeks ago.

He got accessories for his Dash robot, a Casegrandes book, a color coding game (he plays it at school and really liked it), and another book of how things work. Just so you know, the Casgrandes is an animated show from Nickelodeon. He enjoys that one as well as one called The Loud House!

I am pretty sure that Thursday he ate so much chocolate than he has in his entire life, and I was OK with that. I even saw a small blotch of chocolate on his face after school on Thursday.

I don’t think I have mentioned this, but his birthday is so much more fun than mine or anything else going on and I just love seeing his face on his special day. I was joking with him, that you actually don’t turn 8-years-old until 10:25 pm! So, we can only celebrate for an hour and a half, and unfortunately, you will be sleeping so, happy birthday dream boy!
