From Niko’s Point-of-View
I know both of my parents work. My Dad works for a bank and he drives and drives and drives very early in the morning; I do hear him but I prefer to sleep than getting up to wish him a good day. I can usually hear his car when he turns onto our street. I am always excited to see him because I haven’t seen him since last night around 8pm and now its almost 5pm the following day.
So, now that Dad is home, my Mom needs to get her work done. She picks nice clothes for nice people and writes them nice notes; sometimes, I help her choose between a red dress and a blue dress; I choose red because it’s my favorite color. I am glad she works from home because I can see her while she works and show her things that Dad and I have done and eaten. A few weeks ago, Mom was sick and in bed and Dad and I got to spend a lot of time together. It was fun times with Dad. Did you know he likes to eat sweets and when he does, I get some also!
On Saturday’s, Dad takes me somewhere in the morning for breakfast and after we do something fun. This way, Mom gets some alone and quiet time to work, but that doesn’t happen because Franklin cat wants her attention.
On Sunday’s, I get Mom and Dad all day long.
From Dad’s Point-Of-View
Like many people with children, we both have to work so we can buy things and pay our bills. I am glad I have health, dental, and eye insurance; some people with children don’t get those benefits. We don’t have a super extravagant lifestyle; ours cars and clothes are expensive because we like to look nice and need reliable transportation. Yes, we also have the latest Apple phones, Apple watches, an iMac, 2 iPads (one for Nina and one for Niko), and an Acer Chromebook. All these products help make our life easier as we can be in constant contact with each other and can work anywhere in the house. Work for me is writing! It comes so easy for me and I really enjoy it. A few days ago, I found the first 2 chapters I started writing about HOW I BECAME A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL STATISTICIAN. I just need time to write it and finding that time is hard as my attention span for when I am done with Niko in the evenings is less than 10 minutes. And, I will be honest and tell you that those 10 minutes are used for updating our banking accounts, checking Gmail; Facebook; Twitter; and Instagram 1500 times, window shopping online, texting my wife 1500 times, checking the baby monitor 1500 times, eating dinner, and writing. Yep, I am a master multi tasking Dad!
The biggest challenge for me is finding time to spend with my wife. On the weekdays, I probably see her for 15 minutes when I come home from work and then about 45 minutes after we put Niko in the crib.
What happens in those 15 minutes?
Hi.
How was your day?
What did you do today?
How are you feeling?
Did you check the mail?
What time did Niko wake-up from nap?
Hold on, I need to pee, then you can do your work.
What happens in those 45 minutes?
I am going to read for a few minutes and after I finish my chapter, I am going to bed.
Hold on, I need to pee.
Together, we look at pictures of Niko and reminisce of all the stuff he did from that day.
Nina turns off her bedside lamp and we kiss and say goodnight.
