On Tuesday Nina and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. I was planning on picking up dinner for us, but that didn’t happen. After a lot of back and forth text messages regarding food, Nina told me she had some steaks in the freezer; as soon as I saw that, I was like yes, steaks sound great! I love steak!
When I arrived home, I thought the three of us could eat outside; it was so nice out, but that didn’t happen. Instead, I fed Niko his dinner while Nina finished her work. Hey, at least we were all in the same area. After his dinner, I played with him and took him for an early evening walk; Nina came with us for the walk.
I told Nina since neither of us had eaten yet, why don’t we come downstairs and eat outside after we put him in the crib for nighttime? Well, that sounded good, but once Nina is upstairs, she isn’t coming back down till morning. So, I told her I will bring my dinner up after I come downstairs. I always come back downstairs to clean everything, take the trash out, clean the kitty litter, run the dishwasher, prepare my meals for the next work day, eat dinner, and just get a 5 minute breather. After all of that was finished for me, I brought my dinner, cake for us to share, and sparkling apple cider to drink. It was a great dinner/anniversary in bed.
In 2015, we had to cancel our extravagant plans because Nina wasn’t feeling well; at that point she was a few weeks pregnant. So we can blame Niko!
In 2016, we hired a babysitter to watch Niko. And, not just a babysitter we found on Craigslist or the sexy teenager next door; it was one of the nurses from the hospital from when Niko was born. She showed us how to change a diaper, bathe him, and pick him up properly because we had no clue about anything. She even held and rocked a crying baby while playing jazz music so Nina and I could get some sleep. What did mom and do? We went to the bank, had a late lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse, and we purchased some baby clothes. On Saturday, Nina placed an order at our local grocery store to be picked-up curbside on Sunday which we did on the way home. It saved us a lot of time and because of how easy and quick it was, Nina and the baby will take full advantage of that in the future.
This year we celebrated the Saturday before as my parents babysat Niko while Nina and I went to the movies; we saw Kingsman: The Golden Circle and had buttered popcorn, peanut M&M’s, and Mr. Pibb. Afterwards, we went to our local grocery store for a few items. We really enjoyed some alone time, but at the same time, we really missed Niko.
Yes, we would love to do this more often because it would be good for everybody.
