Week 7 – Highlands Owls VS Sam Houston Hurricanes

Posted on 10/12/201411/04/2025 by Mark
On Thursday night, I was at Alamo stadium as the Highlands Owls played the Sam Houston Hurricanes.

Even though I got to see and photograph the Alamo stadium renovations basically from start to finish, this was my first time to see a football game there and I must say, it was pretty awesome!!!  I hope that we will see a lot of Playoff games there and not at the Alamodome.

I have said this many many times, but I am so damn lucky that I got to photograph the historic renovation and it was my pleasure to share it with you. Thank you!!!

I wanted this particular BLOG to me more wordy, but pictures took control of my brain and laptop and I am glad!!  Glad because I didn’t really have the time to write!!  Why?  Well, on Friday, my wife and I celebrated 4 years of marriage and I took the day off from full-time work and football and on Saturday, we rented a Uhaul truck to get the last of our furniture from my parents house (as I am writing this paragraph, I am sitting on a couch in a bedroom starring at several plastic bins with stuff in them and a HUGE FedEx box with a lot of dry mounted Beatles posters in it).

Oh, also on Saturday, I was being interviewed by Michael Deleon from TexasHSfootball.com (as soon as he publishes it, I will share with you).  So, yeah, pretty busy!!

OMG, I almost forget to talk about the game.  The Sam Houston Hurricanes dominated and shut-out the Highlands Owls by a score of 48 to 0.  The Owls remain winless and the Hurricanes are 5 and 2 and 5 and 0 in District 28-5A.

The Highlands Owls ran 57 plays for 120 yards and had 4 turnovers.  Thomas Salame, the back-up quarterback, started and he was 5 of 13 passing for 46 yards with 3 interceptions.  Quindon Boston led the ground game with 12 carries for 28 yards and Bruce Moody led the receivers with 4 receptions for 41 yards.

The Sam Houston Hurricanes ran 42 plays for 270 yards.  Raymonte Prime, the junior quaterback, was 12 of 18 passing for 162 yards with 3 touchdowns.  Dude, on the season Prime has 992 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and just 2 touchdowns!!!  WOW!!   DeWayne Brown, another junior, had 3 receptions for 86 yards and 1 touchdown and 7 carries for 49 yards.  Another junior, Devin Harris, had 4 receptions for 50 yards and 1 touchdown and 11 carries for 47 yards and 2 touchdowns.  On the defensive side, Chaye Williams, yet another junior, had several tackles in the backfield (some were instant replay highlights) and a 62 yard fumble return for a touchdown.  Gosh, I am going to have a hard time choosing a player of the week (I will take bribes)!!

On Thursday, I will be back at Alamo stadium for the McCollum Cowboys and Brackenridge Eagles.

On Friday, I will probably be at Antonian as the Antonian Apaches host the Central Catholic Buttons. I saw Antonian play in Week 4 and the star junior running back. Daniel Rosenfeld was hurt.  Well, he is healthy and so far this season, he already has over 1,000 yards rushing!! I kinda have a feeling that the winner of this game will be the District TAPPS 2-I Champion (and, this is only the 2nd district game for both teams…Antonian is 5 and 1 and 1 and 0 in district and the Buttons are 4 and 2 and also 1 and 0 in district.  Man, I really hope this is the game for Friday night!!!  Plus, it would be my first time at Antonian for a football game.  As soon as I get confirmation, I will update my schedule.
