High School Wrap-Up Part 2

Posted on 12/27/201311/04/2025 by Mark
Yesterday, I published PART 1 which was about Judson Football, Games of the Year, and Alamo stadium.

Today, I got PART 2 which is about players…that is right folks, players; without the players, there would be no high school football.  At any given moment during a game, a player will do something that you will remember for the rest of your life.

I saw Justin Stockton, the Steele Knights running back, make his debut in 2010 as a freshmen on Thursday Night Lights (he had 2 carries for 78 yards and 1 touchdown).  Yeah, that got my attention, the fans in the stands attention, and all the people watching online and live attention!!!  WOW!!!   Stockton was a back-up to Malcolm Brown, who is now a running back at UT Austin.

Steele won the state championship that year, lost the state championship in 2011, lost in the semifinals in 2012, and this year, they lost in the quarterfinals.

Justin Stockton’s final numbers were very impressive…6,309 yards and 87 touchdowns.  He is in 5th place for the career rushing leaders for San Antonio.  Would’ve been more but Steele had so many blow-out wins in his 4 years, that Justin didn’t play the 2ndhalf of a lot of games (heck, some games it was 1 quarter only for Justin).

He will be playing college ball at Texas Tech University and I have said this numerous times, but he will be a much better collegiate player than Malcolm Brown.

This stat man is really going to miss Justin running the ball, but I will for sure be keeping an eye on him in college and you should too (I said the same thing about Johnny Manziel 3 years ago and he won the Heisman Trophy as a freshman).

Coming Up

Even though High School football is over, I will have a High School Football BLOG published after the San Antonio High School Football All Star game which will be on CW35 on January 4th.

I will finally get the opportunity to see Hunter Rittimann from Johnson, Kash Knutson from Reagan, and Ramon Richards from Brackenridge.  Some of the smaller schools like Antonian, Lytle, Cornerstone, Holy Cross, Poteet, Sabinal, Somerset, Central Catholic, Cole, La Vernia, and San Antonio Christian have All-Stars and it is always cool to see them play with and against the bigger schools. In 2012, a player from St. Anthony stood out.   I am the “unofficial writer” for St. Anthony Yellow Jacket High School basketball…the next game I will be attending is Jan 8th at Judson.

I can’t wait to see Jeremy Sanchez from Burbank, Sean Eddington from Warren, Caid Frankowiak from East Central, Zach Sterling from San Marcos, Cody Ennis and Byron Daniels from Madison, Justin Stockton, Matt Moen, and Josh Malin from Steele, Garrett Smith from Smithson Valley, Andre Wilson from Judson, Brandon Ramon from Harlandale, Larry Stephens from Brandeis, Grant Watanabe and Josh Luna from Brennan, Dimitri Flowers from Churchill, Brandon Valle from Clark, Zach Galindo from O’Connor, and Tyler Ahrens from Kerrville Tivy all play one final game!!!  Dang, I am so excited…I just can’t help it!!!   (click here for the complete list of the players participating in the SA High School All Star football game)

I will also have a High School Football BLOG published after the UIL announces the new re-alignments.

Thanks
