week 11 – the playoffs

Posted on 11/12/201311/04/2025 by Mark
Boy, the regular season sure flew by fast!!!  It seems like just yesterday, we were in Week 0.  And, now we got 6 weeks of PLAYOFFS where anything can happen and hopefully, for me, it will end in Cowboys stadium (or whatever the hell it is called) at a state championship game.

Unlike most Texas High School Football websites, I won’t make any predictions because I have only seen San Antonio teams.

But, I will make my opinions known…

I wouldn’t be surprised if Judson, Steele, or Smithson Valley made it to Arlington. Yeah, I am extremely biased toward Judson…I worked all 10 regular season games and they are really really good. They did lose to both Steele and Smithson Valley, but that doesn’t matter cause everybody is now 0 and 0!

It is really cool that the San Antonio area has 4 undefeated teams…the Smithson Valley Rangers, the Reagan Rattlers, the Brennan Bears, and the Falls City Beavers.  That is a very nice accomplishment and I know there goal is too remain undefeated and be the last team standing and that is a great possibility for those teams.

I didn’t work any Reagan, Brennan, or Falls City games during the regular season, but am hoping to during the playoffs.

Of course, there will be a “Cinderella team” that shocks everybody!!!

Here are some possible playoff match-ups in 5A that I would love to see and work:

5A Division I

Madison Mavericks VS O’Connor Panthers – area playoffs Week 12

Last year, Madison and O’Connor played a quarterfinal playoff game that featured 5 players over 100 yards of offense, 14 Touchdowns, 45 First Downs, 101 Points, 122 Plays, and 1,027 Yards. O’Connor won the game 52 to 49.  WOW!!!

Judson Rockets VS Madison Mavericks –  quarterfinals Week 14

The winner could end up being the state champion.

Judson Rockets VS Allen Eagles -state championship Week 16

5A Division II

Reagan Rattlers VS Steele Knights – area playoffs Week 12

Smithson Valley Rangers VS Brandeis Broncos – area playoffs week 12

The Rangers defeated Brandeis in Week 0 and Brandeis hasn’t lost since.

Steele Knights VS Smithson Valley Rangers – quarterfinals Week 14

Man, this would be a DREAM match-up for me, the media, and High School Football junkies!!!  It would be a 1 loss Steele team playing an undefeated Ranger team and who knows, the winner could end up being the state champion.

Steele Knights VS Katy Tigers – semifinals Week 15

These teams played last year in the semifinals and Steele came up a bit short.  The winner could end up being the state champion.

Dude, there is a first round match-up in 4A Division 1 that really intrigues me and if I didn’t have a gig on Friday, I would pay to watch this game as a fan.  Oh, I guess I shall tell you the game…Schertz Clemens and San Antonio Brennan!!

The Texas Sports Radio Network will have you covered for the HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS. You can listen online or you can download the TSRN mobile app.

I will be at Comalander stadium on Thursday for the Steele Knights and the Clark Cougars.  Last year the Steele Knights played the Marshall Rams in the first playoff game and crushed them by a score of 49 to 17.  Clark is my alma mater (class of 1995) and I gotta be honest, but I am expecting Steele to repeat what they did to the Rams and if somehow miraculously Clark wins, that will easily be the upset of the year.

On Friday, I will again be at Comalander stadium for the Judson Rockets and Churchill Chargers. These teams played in Week 2 and the Judson Rockets defeated the Chargers by a score of 28 to 6.  For this game, I am expecting Judson to win in a close offensive explosion game.

The only negative thing about working at Comalander is they don’t have anything to eat or drink for the press-box folks.  I am spoiled because at Judson homes games, we get Dickeys BBQ!  I will just have to make sure I eat and drink enough on Thursday and Friday throughout the day.   Actually, I really won’t have to worry about Thursday since I got a Dr’s appointment and am taking the day off from work.  I just hope I get out in time for game as it is a late afternoon appointment.
