2013 national signing day

Posted on 02/08/201311/04/2025 by Mark
On Wednesday, February 6th, several San Antonio High School football players signed a football scholarship to attend college and play football.  This marks a HUGE day for the Colleges and the Universities throughout the country as they get a fresh crop of talent.   Friends, family members, and coaches celebrate as the local media act like paparazzi.

It was so awesome to read about all the signings and see pictures from @mysahighschools in my Twitter feed on Wednesday.  Thanks Lorne and Blake for keeping me updated.

I am not going to mention every single football player (just my favorites), so please take a look at the complete list as compiled by the San Antonio Express News.

Justin Stockton, Running back, JR

Cibolo Steele High School – Texas Tech

Baylen Brown, Offensive tackle

O’Connor High School – Texas Tech

Aron Taylor, Wide receiver

Warren High School – UTSA

Jarveon Williams, Running back

Judson High School  – UTSA

Jordan Stearns, Defensive back

Cibolo Steele High School – Oklahoma State

Josh Reynolds, Wide receiver

Jay High School – undecided

I gotta say that I think Oklahoma State University is the big winner in San Antonio.  Not only did they get Jordan Stearns, but they also got Vincent Taylor from Madison (defensive tackle) and Tre Flowers from Judson (defensive back).  They are gonna be set on defense for a few years.

My Alma Mater, UTSA grabbed two offensive weapons in Aron Taylor and Jarveon Williams.  I hope they get to play this season cause it would love to hear there names on Radio Formula…I am the stat man for Spanish radio UTSA football!!!

Good luck players and thank you for a ton of magical High School football moments!  I look forward to seeing you play on Saturday’s.

Last season, I was on the Texas A&M bandwagon since I saw Johnny Manziel play High School football at Kerrville Tivy.  I was so happy for him, the Aggies, and Kerrville when he won the Heisman (when they announced his name, I got goose bumps).

Well, this season, I am gonna jump on the Texas Tech bandwagon…they got a new Head Coach in Kliff Kingsbury (he was the Offensive Coordinator at Texas A&M last season and helped brand Manziel).  Kliff played High School football at New Braunfels and I got to see him play!  I also saw him play at Tech when I worked for ESPN Radio at the 2003 Alamo Bowl!

Texas Tech also snatched Mike Jinks as the Running Backs coach.  Jinks was the Head Coach at Steele High School (they won the 2010 state championship and lost the 2011 state championship; I was at both games).  I have had the pleasure to work a bunch of Steele games and Jinks was always super nice and a class act.  He probably doesn’t know my name, but he always shakes my hand when I am hanging out on the field.  I know one day, Mike Jinks will be a college football Head Coach!!

Good luck Coach Jinks; I will be rooting for you.
