UTSA Vs San Jose State Spartans

Posted on 10/21/201211/04/2025 by Mark
Yesterday, I was at the Alamodome for UTSA football as they played the San Jose State Spartans.

For this game, I did something very different as a statistician.  I didn’t use my large stat board…I used my small board and only kept track of drive summary and how long each play was.  It was funny, cause I kept looking at the wall for my large start board to input the offensive numbers and it wasn’t there!!

Don’t worry,  Jorge Rodriguez, the play-by-play broadcaster, and David Miguel, the color analyst for the Spanish broadcast had access to a website for all the stats and we also get a printout at the end of each quarter.

It made my job a lot easier and you know something, I think it worked very well and I am gonna do it again next Saturday.

Even though UTSA lost, it is still such an awesome feeling to be a part of something special.  Several times throughout the game, I got goosebumps!!!   I just love seeing the kids who played high school football in San Antonio playing on Saturday’s for the UTSA!!!!  WOW!!!

In Week 2, I worked a high school football game and in my article for that particular, I complained about the officiating.   One of the officials in that game found my article and emailed me…let me just say he was not at all happy with my comments about the officiating.  After several emails were exchanged between us, I found out he is in the Replay booth at UTSA football games, which is next to our booth!!  So, I was like, well, I will meet you at the next home game which was yesterday!!!

To be honest, I was a bit nervous about meeting him and kept trying to think how I should approach him.  I actually saw him eating lunch cause his credentials were facing me and it had his name on it.   Since I knew what he looked like, that made it so much easier for me.  I went right up to him in the Replay booth and put my hand on his shoulder and said “I am Mark Lieberman, nice to finally meet you“…he was so nice, we chit-chatted for a minute about high school football and then we let him get back to work.

Hi, I am Mark. I started writing in 2011 about high school football, daddy blogging since 2015, and reviewing books since 2023. My writing style is unique, my sense of humor is a little crazy, and I’m not embarrassed to share any of it. You can email me at thedadspeaks@icloud.com.
