Week 2 – Clark Cougars Vs O’Connor Panthers

Posted on 09/15/201211/04/2025 by Mark
Last night, I was at Farris stadium for a District 27-5A game between the Clark Cougars and the O’Connor Panthers.

On Thursday night, I worked a game that was canceled in the 3rd quarter due to weather.  That was the 2nd time that has happened to me since I started this gig in 1997.

Well, last night, I had a first!!!  One player had more yards than the opponent had in total!!  Wow!  I was really impressed and I think the Brandeis Broncos and Warren Warriors (hey, I am working that particular game tonight at Gustafson stadium) should be very concerned.

I saw the Clark Cougars play last Thursday night and they have a a really solid running game with Brandon Valle, the running back, and Chase Jones, the quarterback.  Passing game is practically extinct!   Brandon and Chase each had over 100 yards rushing last week.

Brandon Valle carried the load last night with 16 carries for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns.  I don’t know if Chase forgot how to run the ball cause he had 8 carries for 36 yards.  Presley Miller, a wide receiver, threw a 70 yard touchdown on a double pass!  The Cougars ran a total of 41 plays for 262 yards.

Tre Johnson is the running back for the O’Connor Panthers.  Tre had 30 carries for 323 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Not only did he out-gain Clark in the game but also at halftime.  Wow!  Tre didn’t even play in the 4th quarter! Had Tre gotten 11 more carries, that would’ve been absolutely fucking amazing!!!  Tre is extremely fast and several of his runs last night, he was able to stop and switch directions without losing his speed.

Dude, we got some really awesome running backs in the city.

The fullback on the O’Connor team is Billy Craft (sweet name) and he had 14 carries for 76 yards and 1 touchdown.  Most of his carries were in the 4th since Tre was done.  I am glad he is healthy and able to play football; Kusenberger thought his football career was done due to an enlarged heart.

The back-up to Tre and Billy was Xavier Guillen.  Guillen had 8 carries for 66 yards and 1 touchdown.

Combined, the Panthers ran the ball 60 times for 477 yards for touchdowns.  Holy shit…that is like old time Judson!!!   Wow.

Another first for me…I am going to give a HUGE kudos (no pun intended) to an offensive lineman named Baylen Brown.  Baylen is 6’5 and weighs about 300 pounds.  He did a phenomenal job as a rush blocker. Texas Tech is very lucky to have him next year.  Wow!!!

FINAL SCORE

Clark             19  (0-3, 0-1)

O’Connor      52  (3-0, 1-0)

Tonight, I will be at Gustafson stadium for another District 27-5A game between the Brandeis Broncos and the Warren Warriors.  I thought this game would determine the District champion, but after seeing O’Connor last night, I gotta put them in the mix for the District championship!  O’Connor is explosive on offense with many weapons and the defense is solid and full of experienced players.
