Week 3 – Holmes Huskies Vs Marshall Rams

Posted on 09/21/201211/04/2025 by Mark
Last night, I was at Farris stadium for a District 27-5A match-up between the Holmes Huskies and Marshall Rams.

Marshall was featured in Week 6 on Thursday Night Lights last season and that particular game had what I considered the best finish of any of our television games.   Kids dream about kicking a game winning field goal as time expired and that dream came true for Julian Budari, the kicker for the Marshall Rams!!!  You couldn’t have asked a for a better ending!!!  Oh, my Dad also came to that game and snapped some pictures; that was his 2nd game he has attended to watch his son do stats!!!

It was no game winning field goal last night for the Rams.  They really struggled on offense and had no answer for the Holmes passing game.  The lone bright spot for the Rams was the running back, Tre Scallion, who had 12 carries for 110 yards; although 76 yards came on one carry in the third quarter.  Marshall had 3 fumbles and several bad snaps that resulted in negative rushing yards.

The Holmes Huskies looked like a machine!  They ran a no huddle offense and were super quick to get ready for the next play….I didn’t have a chance to  put my marker down when Holmes had the ball.  The quarterback, Gilbert Garcia, completed 17 of his 20 passes for 341 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He also had a touchdown running the ball.  I was really impressed by Garcia.  He spread the ball to 6 receivers and Chris Sauseda and Brandon Banda each had over 100 yards!!!

FINAL SCORE

Holmes           45  (2-2, 1-1)

Marshall          14  (1-2, 0-1)

Tonight, I will be at Rutledge stadium for the Judson Rockets and East Central Hornets.  Dude, I can’t wait to see Jarveon Williams, the Judson running back.  Last week, he had fantasy numbers…14 carries for 300 yards and 5 touchdowns.  Wow!!!  And congrats to Coach Mark Smith as he got his first win as the Judson head coach last week.

I was really shocked that the Hornets were ranked number 5 by the San Antonio Express News in the preseason.  I am hoping that afterwards my opinion on the Hornets will change.  I heard a rumor that the Hornets running back, Chris Armstrong is likely out for tonight’s game.  If that is true, that would really suck since he is there top performer.

If there isn’t an Express News staff writer at the game, I will provide updates on this game in the Friday night football chat room from the newspaper (check out mysa.com main page around 7ish for the link).  If there is a staff writer, I will let them do there job and I will chime in as needed.  My handle name will be marktsrn; come say hi to me!!!!

Tomorrow, I will be at the Alamodome as the UTSA Roadrunners look to stay undefeated.  Viva Roadrunners!!!
