Painting and Babysitting

Posted on 06/23/202404/19/2025 by Mark

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we had our bathrooms and kitchen painted. The person we hired had already done some other work for us in the past, and I trusted him and knew he could paint as he is “a jack of all trades.”

I was not expecting him to bring his 10-year-old daughter with him on those days, but he did, and I couldn’t say no. Luckily, she was a delight and Niko really enjoyed the company. I mean, we have never had any of his classmates over, and to be thrown into this situation, Niko did excellent. They played, they ate, they did art, they drank, they ate more, they watched television, and they were both respectful of each other. Nina and I did excellent as well. I only had to hide the OREO cookies after they kept eating them! I did have to work on Tuesday and Thursday, and on Thursday, I did have to tell them to go upstairs during one of my meetings.

When they left on Thursday, we were telling him and his daughter, that maybe the 6 of us can go out and do something (I got 6, because I am including his wife).

It’s funny that his daughter is an only child and so is Niko, and both were shy to start with on Tuesday, but Nina got them to play together with two of Niko’s robots to see which one was faster. Oh, his daughter took a liking to Riley cat. Whenever a new person comes to the house, he hides. But, eventually, he came out to see her.

Nina and I both told Niko that we were extremely proud of him and how he acted. On Friday night, Niko asked for a Rubik’s Cube, and I was happy to get it for him. Man, all day on Saturday, he kept checking my phone for an update on tracking through the Amazon app. Guess what? As soon as he fell asleep, it got delivered, so when he woke up in the middle of the night for a quick pee, I showed it to him, and he played with for a few seconds before going back to bed.
