Last Sunday, and around our Niko dinner time which happens at 3 pm, he was complaining of his ear hurting. At first, we thought it was water as he had a shower a few hours earlier. None of the Google remedies worked for getting water out of ears, so I made a quick trip a few hours later to CVS for ear drops. That helped for a few seconds, but he was still complaining. A few minutes later around 6:30 pm, we were getting him ready for bed. Always before bed, we ask him to pee and as he was peeing, he started to vomit a lot. He had pretty good aim for the toilet, and I just held his hair so he wouldn’t get anything on it. Now, in his short lifetime, he has only thrown-up a few times, and all those times, Nina and I knew something was wrong.
Instead of going to bed, we all got dressed and went to an urgent care clinic down the street. I cleaned up the vomit before we left, and it was really gross. It’s one of the things that makes me gag (and, yes, I threw up a little bit as well, but it was from gagging).
While we were waiting in the waiting room, he threw up again, but we came prepared with a small Tupperware bowl. He was so tired and kept asking to go home, and we said no. We need to know what you have, so we can get it fixed.
Well, almost two and half hours later, we got confirmation that it was an ear infection. We left the clinic at 8:44 pm and arrived home at 9 pm. At 9:02 pm, Niko was already upstairs in his bed and 1o minutes later he was sleeping.
At 3 am, he woke up as he had to pee, and when that happens, I get up also to help him get tucked back. Less than 5 minutes later, I hear him asking for me, and he is sitting in his bed throwing up again. Luckily, it was liquid, so I wasn’t gagging. I kept reassuring him, it’s ok as it’s just sheets and they can get cleaned. I did have to get new sheets from our bedroom and told Nina what was happening as she was still sleeping.
We kept him home on Monday and Tuesday from school.
Oh, they gave him pills and we crushed them in pudding, and he takes them very easily. Nina even crushed some other pills for him as well. Liquid medications are impossible to get in his body. Like, a few weeks ago, I mentioned that sometimes he takes liquid meds easy and sometimes he doesn’t.
Flash forward to today, and he is doing so much better. We have one more pill left for tonight.
When he is sick, I really want to take it from him and give it to me. Let me complain and not take anything to help! No, I am kidding, as I do take med and I only complain a little bit. I just feel so bad for him and I want him to get healed quick.
