It’s 7:38 pm on Saturday night, and usually, by that time, I have something written and ready to be published for Sunday morning. But, I have nothing tonight.
I don’t want to bore you about the joys of being a homeowner! In the past few weeks, we had to shell out money for the a/c and on Friday, we had to purchase a new refrigerator. It’s not cooling, and to confirm this, I purchased a refrigerator thermometer from Amazon on Thursday night and thankfully, it got delivered on Friday afternoon. Yeah, 55 degrees is not going to work for us! The part a technician wanted to replace was almost the same cost as a new one. Plus, a few weeks prior, we paid for a new ice maker install. That was the original issue as the ice maker stopped making ice. Whatever the techs did, and afterwards, we noticed the freezer was cooling. When the ice maker was installed, the tech claims he fixed a wire behind the fridge and that was why the freezer stopped cooling. Neither work, and the third tech wanted to replace the circuit board, and I refused to shell out $700. Now, I already paid $500 for the ice maker install and labor. The tech even said that even if we do replace the board, it may not work as there is an issue with LG’s fridges that are in the same age range as ours. It could be something else internally that wouldn’t be able to fix. So, noted: we won’t buy any LG appliances. Our new one is Whirlpool. Also last week and this coming week, we are getting estimates for painting. Well, we will still get them, but that will have to be put on hold for a few weeks.
Yesterday, I rented a U-Haul van and drove up to my mother-in laws house to get a piece of furniture. She moved on Friday, and Nina’s brother, came in from Boston to help her. He was our guest on Friday, Saturday, and tonight. It was nice to see him if only for brief time. He told Nina, hey, you can visit me. I was like, yeah, I can do Boston again…last time we visited was when he got married. I told Nina, if we go, and it’s baseball or basketball season, I want to catch a game. Then, I was thinking how far the Basketball Hall Of Fame is. The last time I visited there was a long long long long time ago for one my cousins wedding (my dad’s sister’s kids).
Nina’s mother lives where we used to live (we also lived with her for 9 months while we paid down debt and saved money) and it’s about an hour drive form where we live now. And, not a fun drive as part of the highway was closed for construction so I had to go a different way then what I was planning. Yes, I drove by our old house and yelled silently, hello old house. Would you believe there was an accident at the same intersection coming and leaving. The leaving one, I had to keep pulling over to allow the emergency vehicles to get through and there were a bunch of them. Nina and Niko drove up separately in the momma mobile and they got stuck for a few minutes in the leaving one where I was lucky to pass it just in time. Nina and Niko threw some trash away, and gathered a few things that she forget to pack.
I went home to unload the U-Haul, and Nina and Niko made a stop to her mom’s new place, and afterwards, they went to Target to get some milk and eggs. Remember, our fridge is being replaced, so we threw a lot of food away (as it’s not cooling). Luckily, we have a mini fridge and I moved it from upstairs to downstairs for a temporary fix. Once the new fridge arrives, we will start the replenishment. Also luckily, that we have a chest freezer that is almost 13 years old and we were able to store everything in the refrigerator freezer in it. See, the joys of being a homeowner!
After I dropped of the U-Haul, I had to get something to eat for myself. I would’ve gotten food during the trip, but I really wanted to be done. I ruled out cheeseburgers. I ruled out cheese enchiladas. I thought for a few seconds about Taco Bell, as I can’t even remember the last time I had it, and I guess, that is a good thing. I was left with fried chicken, and I had three choices. The first one, I slowed down to turn, but the car didn’t want to go there. Then, I saw a Popeyes, and I was like yes, that sounds good and greasy and I haven’t had it in a very long time. After I ordered, it was super slow in the drive through. They probably did that on purpose so I can have time to contemplate the decision of getting chicken. Well, the verdict on the food…it was OK, I ate it all and when Nina and Niko came home, he had a small bite and took half of my biscuit. Nina had ordered pizza, so pizza was also on the way to out house.
Today, Nina is planning on visiting her mom to help her unpack. Niko and I are staying home and I know we will both be glad. It was a long day yesterday.
Nina did tell me that he did amazing in the car, as it was a lot to sitting. But, I know Nina and knew she would have a bunch of things for him to do in the car. I know he had his Nintendo Switch, and I saw markers, drawing pads, and books as well. For me, I was alone in a U-haul van with my music which I was jamming and singing out loud too.
During my drive down, I was amazed at how much the area has developed from where I used to work (at WAMU/Chase) all the way to my mother-in-laws house 22 miles away.
Wow, now it’s 8:25 pm, and I have something decent. I mean, it’s not my best piece of work, but it’s something. And, something is better than nothing.
Originally, I was gonna write a quick blog…
I have had a busy week at work, I did a lot of driving yesterday, and I have no brainwaves to write something today.
