Happy New Year – 2024

Posted on 12/31/202304/19/2025 by Mark

Last week, I told may wife that for 2024, I want to reach out to some real people who I am friendly enough with and meet up with them in real life. Not like every weekend, but maybe one or two per month. I feel like I have done a very poor job of keeping up appearances. I do share stuff on Social Media, but it’s dad blogs, book reviews, or interesting pictures. I don’t comment on other peoples posts nor do I like them, but I do see them. I know it’s easy, just comment and like. But, to be honest, I don’t want to. Maybe I should start, though!

I know that when this happens, I may have to take Niko with me and I hope they are cool with that. Back in October, I met two of my former co-workers from Chase for lunch and I had Nina and Niko with me.

I still am going to read books, write book reviews, and write dad blogs (thedadspeaks.com). Writing is something I will always do as I enjoy it and it comes easily for me. I may even start writing again on thestatmanspeaks.com (that is for my sports writing). I just wish I could find a way to get more people engaged in my writing.

As far as reading books, I have exceeded my goal of reading 100 books this year. Oh, you want to know how many? It’s not 101, it’s actually 129! So, for 2024, I will up my reading goal to 125!

As far as writing, I wrote 166 blogs this year (all on thedadspeaks.com). Wow! Most of them are book reviews, but still, dude, that is a lot of words!

Maybe I need to set a schedule for blogs next year.

For Christmas, my wife got me (and her) a subscription to MasterClass. So, I am very excited to look at the classes, and expand my repertoire.

And like every year, I strive to eat healthier and exercise. That usually lasts a few days and then I have a breakdown. Actually, exercising should be easy for me as I have been walking to the school in the mornings for the past several weeks before the winter break. I enjoy it and it’s cool now in the mornings.

On the personal side of things for me, I got a new job in October, and it’s been absolutely perfect. 2023 was by far a very interesting year in my career as I was a contractor for MUFG Bank Ltd. and then in September, they hired me as a FTE. Then, in October, I resigned from MUFG Bank Ltd. and started a new job at Health Equity as the Treasury Manager, Unclaimed Property.

For my last eating out excursions in 2023, on Friday, Niko and I had In and Out Burger. He wanted a cheeseburger and that was the place I chose. I have been there before and this was Niko’s first time. We both enjoyed it. On Saturday, I wanted noodles and I found a better place than the junk restaurant I always choose. I got noodles and soup for Niko and I and Nina got pad Thai.

So, 2024 will be a happy and fun year for me and I am looking forward to what it has in store for me.

See y’all next year.
