Well, Niko’s second first week of school went very well. His favorite subject so far, is Language Arts.
On Monday, the first day, my alarm was set for 6:15 am, and when it went off, I woke up and walked to Niko’s room where I opened his door quietly, then jumped into his bed and said WAKEY WAKEY, TIME TO GET UP FOR SCHOOL. He groggily looked at me and asked me what time it was, and I answered 6:15. He then looked at his clock and said no, it’s 5:45. I then panicked and looked and indeed, he was correct. I felt so bad for waking him up 30 minutes early. I told him he can go back to sleep, but he was excited and eager to start the morning.
Even though every other wake up has been earlier than 6:15 am last week, Niko and I did well. I am used to getting up early as I have done it for a long long long time. Once Niko is awake, and just like Monday, he is excited and eager to start the morning. He has plenty of time to eat and use the bathroom as we don’t leave the house until 7:25 am (the first bell rings at 7:40 am, and we are usually waiting for that sound for about 5 minutes). And I can eat breakfast with him instead of waiting to eat later like we did a lot last year for first grade. Nina actually made a ham and cheese quiche for his breakfasts last week, and Niko enjoyed it so much that Nina is making another for the second week.
As for Riley, that first day and after we got home from dropping Niko off, Riley was waiting outside his door waiting for him to wake up. When he finally realized that Niko wasn’t coming out, he found a nice comfy spot on a rocking chair downstairs. When Riley wasn’t sleeping on the rocking chair, he would hang out and watch the birds on the windowsill right next to my desk. Every few minutes, a little sound would erupt from his mouth like he wanted to chase them and eat them!
When he gets home from school around 3 pm, he is hungry and places his food order with either Nina or I, and he eats for almost 90 minutes! Once 4 pm arrives, I am able to logout of work, and I take over until bedtime. Nina usually still has some work left after that time, so she finishes up. Niko and I don’t have much time for playing in the evenings during the week as we are trying to get him to fall asleep by 6:30 pm or 7 pm. It’s been taking a while longer for him to fall asleep, and when Nina leaves his room after he has been sleeping for a few minutes, he wakes up and he thinks he hasn’t been sleeping. I know, though, in a few weeks, we will get the sleep and awake times figured out.
As for me, every day last week, I had an early bedtime as well. Because I didn’t know when we would wake up the following morning.
Oh, yesterday, was Nina’s birthday, and Niko woke up at 5:30 am and so did I. After Nina woke up around 7:15 am, I ran out really quick to get coffee and breakfast tacos for everybody. Well, I got a soda as I don’t drink coffee. So, what did we get her for her birthday? Well, Starbucks money for coffee and her favorite candies! Niko and I took a small box and wrapped and glued white paper to it, and then I told him to draw something for Nina on each side. On one, he drew a flower as he said Nina is as sweet as a flower and another, he drew her swinging on a swing. He is a really good artist, and I am not just saying that because he is my son, he truly is absolutely amazing. Niko really wanted to give it to her along with the candy on Friday night, and I allowed that.
Also yesterday, I mowed the front lawn. I did half in the morning and finished later in the sweltering heat of the afternoon. After I finished, a cold shower was very nice. I know I say this often, but I enjoy mowing as I love the smell of the fresh cut grass and it always looks nice. I am by no means a professional, but I get the job done.
