Do you ever think too much that it keeps you awake for a few minutes in the evenings? I do. And most of those thoughts revolves around writing! Yeah, I am totally serious.
Like a few weeks ago, I was thinking if I should take everything I wrote on www.thestatmanspeaks.com and merge it to the www.thedadspeaks.com. That way, I can have all of my writings on one site. I go back and forth on that, and it’s not the first time this has come up. What prompted this thought? Well, this month marks 12 years since my first blog on www.thestatmanspeaks.com. It’s still an active website, but I haven’t contributed any written material since last August, when I self-published a book called The Statman Speaks. Maybe, I can just save all the content and remove it? I really don’t know. Maybe, I should just transfer everything over. I really don’t know. It’s 441 published posts and the tags are all sports related, with most for high school football.
Something else I have been thinking about lately is I am due to write another book, as the last one I published was The Statman Speaks in August of 2022. Should I write about Niko being a super-hero or how his Lego’s come to life, as sometimes in the evenings, I make-up stories about those things and Niko loves it so much? I am a good storyteller and I do enjoy it when he gets involved. I do have a few fiction stories that I would like to expand on, but I don’t think of any of them are worthy enough alone. Combining them, now, that may be a good idea. But it will require a lot of work on my end.
I do have an idea in mind, and it’s about my family. I actually have a lot of good written information about my dad as he has provided me with his unpublished memoirs, a journal that his mother wrote when she had colon cancer surgery in November of 1963, and just within this week, he emailed me his own updated obituary! When my dad first emailed me his obituary in 2010, I immediately called him and asked him if he was OK, his reply was yes, I am a bit nuts (aren’t we all)! I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to read, but I did, and yeah, I cried a little bit.
That journal his mother wrote also mentions the death of JFK as she was still recuperating in the hospital. A few years later, his dad also had colon cancer, and passed away from it in 1972.
I did get some information from my mother when we invaded there house a few times last week when our Wi-Fi was out. I think I need to schedule time for us to talk and talking is easier for her than writing it out.
The question I asked my mother was how did her parents meet? Edith, her mother, worked as a hostess in the restaurant at the Empire State Building and Charlie, her father, was at a drug store across the street. I guess she stepped away for a minute and walked to that drug store, where Charlie was buying something. When I was younger, I always thought that Charlie was Chef Boyardee!
My dad doesn’t know how his parents met, Betty and Henry, but he thinks Betty was friends with his Aunt Betty and/or his Uncle Mitchell. There is a story in his unpublished memoirs about Uncle Mitchell’s house in New Jersey as a fishing destination for the family.
My mom and dad met in 1964, as my dad was walking in a park in New Jersey with a friend of his, and it just so happened that my mom was also walking with a friend of hers. My dad threw a football near her to get her attention and made small talk. They were married 5 years later and are still together to this day.
How did Nina and I meet? Well, Nina and I started at Washington Mutual Bank on January 7, 2007, but in different departments.
In August of 2007, she made it to my department and guess where they sat her? Yep, right behind me! When I first saw her, I made some silent remarks… SHE IS TALL! WHY IS SHE WEARING SUNGLASSES INSIDE? WHY IS SHE WEARING A SCARF? SHE IS WEIRD!
We started to talk at work through Instant Messaging because she needed my expertise. I didn’t know until later on, that almost immediately, she really liked the way I smelled; Ok, I will give away my secret…SOFTSOAP was the brand. Since we were both constantly on the phones, IM was the perfect way for us to talk and learn more about each other. I wasn’t even thinking that I would eventually marry this girl and have a child with her. We will mark 13 years of marriage in October.
I also think more than I should be about how to promote my written material on www.thedadspeaks.com. I just want people to engage me in conversations about them (meaning, I want comments).
With www.thestatmenspeak.com, I had a nice following of people who were interested in what I was doing.
With www.thedadspeaks.com, I don’t really have a following, as I think the only people who read it are family members. Niko knows I write a lot about him, and for the past few daddy blogs, I have had the computer read it aloud to him. He laughs at them, and actually pays attention; I mean, whatever device he is using at that present time, he turns it off.
Right now, I just use Facebook to share my words with the world. Should I try using Instagram, should I get back on Twitter and get a new handle for this, should I create a Facebook page, should I create a YouTube page, or should I create a TikTok page? I don’t know. Whatever it will be, it needs be easy and quick. I am open for suggestions! I just got on Threads on Friday, and shared a book review I recently posted here and updated my profile to this:
I am a daddy blogger, a self- published writer, I read and review books, and I take pics of things that pique my interest (mostly cat, scenic, and my son). I currently work for MUFG Bank, Ltd. as a Financial Analyst and have an MBA.
Currently reading: Peter Asher: A Life in Music by David Jacks
Sometimes, I think about what to write here as I have nothing important to say. Like, this one, is kind of rambling and I have no clue when it will end. Because even when I have nothing, I can always create something. I do often times ask Niko what I should write, and most of his suggestions are things like us playing and laughing!
OK, I am done as now my brain can’t even think about anything as it’s just a monkey playing the drums. So, excuse me while I grab a banana!
