Costco

Posted on 04/04/201603/13/2026 by Mark Lieberman
We have been planning a Costco run for household supplies, baby supplies, and food for several months.  Nothing was going to stop us, not even traffic on the highway.  I thought it was illegal to drive on the grass between the highway and the service road, but once one car does it, everybody follows.  I was really hoping that some idiot would get stuck!!   We didn’t do that — instead, we exited at a real exit and took side streets. We were scheduled to arrive at 10, but didn’t arrive till 11:15.  When we parked the car, Nina ran so fast because she had to pee.

It was fun getting stuff for the house, the baby (the diapers were the most expensive thing we purchased), and food.  We had so much stuff, we ended up using 2 carts!!!   Now, last week, I estimated we would spend $500, but when we were checking out, it looked like $800.  The final price was $499!!!   Sweet and perfect!  And, a sigh of relief that it wasn’t more.

Did you know Costco has a snack bar?  For the ride home, we got a slice of pizza and a hot dog and a drink and it was very cheap and extremely yummy.  Before I met Nina, when I did my Costco runs, I would always eat and drink before I shopped and I people watched.  You can throw me in a crowded room and I can satisfy myself by watching people.  It is very interesting what other people do and talk about.

For the past few weeks, Nina has been making food and freezing it because it will be very nice when the baby is here and we are hungry.  Along with the Costco frozen food, we still have lots of room in our freezer.  So, maybe my Mom will do a Trader Joes frozen food stock-up for us…I won’t say no!

Yesterday morning, as I was doing the laundry, I took some clothes out to be included in the hospital bag.  Since I don’t know how the temperature will be in the hospital, I am bringing a variety of clothes.  And, most of what I am bringing, I don’t care if a baby gets it dirty with pee, poo, vomit, or spit.  Toiletries and my electronics will be a last minute thing to gather, but I kinda have an idea of what I need to pack.

My “Honey Do Baby List” is getting shorter and shorter as all I have left is clean downstairs grout (which isn’t fun) and clean both cars inside and out!  The grout involves me getting on the floor and scrubbing and it is a very slow boring process.  But, where I have scrubbed, it looks really good and you can see where I still need to clean.  Yesterday, I had my eyes on a small section in our living room because when I get it done, I can move a leather chair and table and make it a very nice sitting/reading area.  And, where that chair was, I need to clean grout.

I will say that the chair looks fantastic in its new place.  Nina and I always say this, but every time we do something in the house, it makes it look so much better than before.  The old owners neglected the house and we are not only respecting it, but are enjoying it and making it look like people live here.
