Even though we don’t believe in the religious aspects of the holidays, Niko enjoys them because he either gets gifts or food!
On Saturday, our neighborhood, had their annual Easter Eggstravaganza, and Niko was excited because he may see some of his classmates from school. Nina and I even brought him a bucket to gather eggs and Niko decorated it with stickers that bore his name! Last year, he had a bag, and that was hard for him to use.
I was more looking forward to the food trucks, but also, I like to see Niko happy in the world.
Nina stayed home as she was tired and not feeling well, just a cough that tends to come in the evening when she is trying to sleep. I have actually been sleeping on the upstairs sofa for the past few weeks, so she hasn’t been bothering me. It’s nice and comfortable for me and I have an eye mask to block out any light, and I also don’t have Niko’s music playing in my ear all night long. The cat tends to play with balls as soon as I am getting ready for sleep, but then eventually, he comes upstairs and finds a nice place to sleep (usually, the beanbag or a heating pad on the sofa that is set to low).
Well, he didn’t see any of his classmates, and when the actual egg hunt happened, Niko was disappointed as he only got 8 eggs and none of them had stuff that he liked. I told him that when we get home, you need to ask mom if she has anything better? I knew for a fact that she did, as we will probably have an egg hunt for him next weekend. Trust me, she got some good candy as I got some a few days ago. My stash was gone as soon as she shoved it on my desk. I like to eat that type of junk food when nobody can see me and tell me to stop! When we got our groceries delivered on Friday, I noticed a box of Oreo cookies, and I was about to put them in the pantry, and Nina said NOPE, that goes with me upstairs as I want to make sure Niko and I get some.
We did get food truck food, but Niko didn’t like it. Oh well, that just meant more for empanadas for me; he got a cheese pizza, and I got a philly cheesesteak. They were consumed by me fairly quickly. I wish they could’ve been filled more with ingredients.
When we arrived home, Niko asked Nina about the candy, and Nina produced a small stash of candy for him. And, since he didn’t like his empanada, we threw a frozen pizza in the oven.
It was nice to see our neighborhood celebrating and everybody had a happy face. In 2019, when this happened, we had just moved in and were exhausted from moving in. In 2020 and 2021, it was canceled due to Covid.
Last year, the three of us attended the Easter celebration, and it was also the first time in a long time that the three of us have ventured out together. Usually, on the weekends, Niko and I will do things and during the weekdays, Nina and Niko do things (this was before Niko was in school during the weekday).
Lastly, since yesterday was April Fool’s Day, Niko really wanted to pull some pranks on us, but that didn’t happen. After we arrived home from the Easter celebration, Niko plopped himself on the upstairs sofa and watched television! So, he said, maybe we can do April Fools next weekend.
