the due date approaches

Posted on 04/17/201604/19/2025 by Mark
I am a very calm, cool, and collected person and I don’t stress out.  But, I have no clue how I will be in the hospital when my wife is in labor.  There is no way to practice this.

The two biggest questions she and I ask myself are: Am I going to want to see the little dude being born and Am I going to faint in the delivery room?  My simple answer is I have no clue, I will just play it by ear and see what happens.  I will definitely keep a journal somewhere (I don’t want to bring my laptop to the hospital, so maybe I will go old fashioned with pen and paper) on what happens so I can share it on The Daddy Diaries.

On Friday, after work, I got Nina’s car cleaned inside and outside and when I arrived home, we put the car seat along with the car seat base in her car.  Next week, I will get mine cleaned and I will also get my haircut so I can look good for the all pictures.  In 20 years, I don’t want hairless monkey boy (the baby), to be looking at pictures from his birth and wondering why does Daddy have unbrushed hair, bushy sideburns, and hair on his face and why does Mommy have pink hair?  Don’t worry, Nina dyed her hair brown this weekend.  I can’t wait to hear some of his other questions as he grows up.  Maybe I will create a babypedia website and use my creativity to make up all sorts of fun and unusual answers!!

If we are home together and it is time for the baby boy to come out, she wants to take her car even though all the hospital bags are in my car (it will take less than 1 minute to put them in her car).  Just so you know, her car is an SUV and mine is a sedan — I think she may want to sit in the back (or actually lay down in the back seat and start practicing her screaming).

I know what you’re thinking, the car is going to get dirty as soon as the baby arrives.  I know that, I am not a dummy.  But, at least Mom and Dad (hey, that is Nina and I) can have some peace knowing that the cars are cleaned (at least for a few minutes).  And, I am pretty sure that most car wash places have experience cleaning baby and parent trash.

Yesterday, we setup the baby camera monitor with 2 way audio that my Aunt Bobi purchased for us last week. It was a little pain in the ass to setup, but once I figured it out, it was very easy to use.  The coolest thing is we can control and monitor it from our laptops and smartphones.  When the cat went upstairs, I spied on him — yeah, it has night vision.   Hey, I wanted to see what he was doing.  I really want to get a wireless pet camera so we can see what he does when we leave.  Knowing the cat, he probably meows for a few minutes and then eventually finds someplace to sleep (recently, he likes sleeping under the crib). He has only been in the crib twice and he got yelled at!!!

So last Monday after we organized the baby’s room, my back was hurting very bad.  From a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst, it was a 5.  But, I also know that it does get better — it just takes time and some Aleve.   With that being said, on Saturday, my back was much better and I was able to drag a mini fridge upstairs that Nina’s mother purchased for us.

Even before we knew we were having a baby, we wanted a mini fridge!!  It will store drinks for Mom an Dad and milk for the baby!!  That way, we don’t have to go downstairs to feed the baby.  Because knowing us, we would step on the cat (MEOW MEOW) and fall downstairs.  Basically, that is not what we need with a newborn.

This morning, we decided to put the waterproof mattress pad on the bed (you know why, I don’t have to explain).

See, we are prepared and ready for the baby to arrive.  He is due May 8th, but I have feeling it may be the week before and Nina agrees with me — but then again, it could happen now!!  I could be writing this from the hospital.  I am actually writing this from my home office in my pajamas on Sunday waiting for it to rain.
