So, next month, I will be turning 40 years old (or young) and in May, Niko turns 1. No, I won’t do the math for when he turns 16. You can stop with the old jokes right now.
I really want to be in good physical shape so I can keep up with Niko as he gets older (or younger). It’s not like I am an overweight food addict who loves Dr. Pepper. Well, I am a food addict, I love Dr. Pepper, but I am not overweight, by any means. Isn’t admitting one of the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous?
I will admit that since September 10th of last year, I haven’t had a soda. Yes, I am counting because it is a huge accomplishment for me. Now, I may have a soda during my birthday weekend because it is my 40th and I can do whatever I want!! I went 9 months without a soda in 2015 and made the choice in November to have a drink while on a cruise. Good reason? I used to drink a lot of Dr. Pepper and when I say a lot, I mean it (it didn’t matter where I was or who I was with). A huge Dr. Pepper would always quench my thirst any day of the year. I also drank a lot of a chocolate milk (I didn’t care if the milk and syrup was fat free, I still drank it). On that day, September 10th, it was hot and the place I stopped for a drink and food didn’t have Dr. Pepper, so I had have a root beer (which is also really good).
As far as food, I am doing pretty good on that front as I am eating less and more healthier. I really have to stop driving thru fast food places. Right now, I stop like once a week or once every two weeks; so it should be easy to stop. During my birthday weekend, I am planning on eating a lot of bad things and that will definitely include a tender steak, Chinese, breakfast tacos, and whatever I want!!!
I had a Fitbit One and when it was clipped on my pants (which was 95 percent of the time), it motivated me to walk at take the stairs especially at work. But, this past January, I accidently left it clipped on my pants and those pants got washed along with my Fitbit. I did follow the strange instructions on the Fitbit support page to place it in rice for 24 hours. That didn’t work and I was disappointed because I liked having it and when I didn’t have it, I wasn’t motivated to do anything.
In February, I purchased a Samsung Gear Fit 2 and as soon as I put it my wrist (which was not something I was used to), I was motivated again to walk and take the stairs at work. It has a lot more functionality and so far, I am enjoying it. Yes, I am still trying to get used to having it on my wrist. I purchased a swatch (remember those) when I was 16 years old for my trip to Israel and I only wore it once!!! I still have it although the band is gone (but, I can always purchase a new band). Hmm, maybe I can give it to Niko when he is older.
A few days ago at work, one of my female co-workers asked me if I had lost some weight? Jokingly, I said no, I brushed my teeth!!! I actually said probably because I have been walking more and eating better and thanks for noticing. That made me feel really good.
When I hear the term Dad Bod, I think of a dad with messed up hair, a few days without shaving, tired, a few stains of food on him, and overall a bit disheveled. Oh wait, that is me!!! And, the great thing is my wife always tells me I look good no matter what state I am in.
