Niko Talks

Posted on 02/05/202304/19/2025 by Mark

From the moment Niko wakes up to the moment he goes to bed, he is constantly talking. I wonder where he gets that from? You guessed correctly if you said Mark!

In the evenings and especially during bed preparation, it’s a lot of WHAT IF questions and ask me questions about school. I leave his room in the evenings, and Nina hangs out with him until he falls asleep, but I can hear them chatting about things for a few minutes. He always asks Nina a lot of really good thought-provoking questions. I fold laundry in our bedroom and when I am done, I go downstairs and do my duties of cleaning the kitchen, taking the trash out, and scooping kitty litter. Then, I can finally have some quiet time to myself, and my poor little dad brain can stop working. I usually write or read in the evenings; I hardly have the attention span for television.

Sometimes when I am telling him a made-up story, he interrupts me to add his side of the story, which I like and encourage.

He also has some great one liners that make me crack up:

School was so good I want to tell you nothing.

I have a remote and I’m going to turn you off, Dad.

Dad, your breath smells like hot dogs. You didn’t brush your teeth.

Dad, I love you as he was eating hot dogs and pasta.

When me and him are in the car, we listen to music, but almost immediately, he starts asking questions or reading signs and I have to turn the music lower to hear him. We are constantly talking and laughing when we are in a store or eating. Even when we use public bathrooms, we chit-chat, and most of the time it’s me asking him not to open the stall door as I am not done yet!

Oh, he also really enjoys singing songs, and for the past few weeks, Let It Go from Frozen has been his favorite. And my favorite also. Yeah, this old dad likes Frozen!
