On December 10th, the three of us started our journey to Galveston at 2:30 am. Well, that almost happened because that is when Niko woke up. Somebody was eager to get on the road. I knew he was tired even though he said otherwise, so I urged him to relax in bed. A few minutes later, he was sleeping again and didn’t wake up till around 8:30 am. That was one of his best sleeps in a long time and he needed it. Nina and I were awake at 7:30, and just waited for him. We were in no rush to get going as we had a hotel reservation in Galveston and the check-in time was 4 pm and then on Monday morning, we had to board Adventure of the Seas at 10:30 am.
We actually started our journey to Galveston at 9:30 am and arrived at the hotel at 3:30 pm. Nina did a great job in packing snacks for us and stuff for Niko to play with. For the majority of the drive, I sat in the back with Niko and tried my best to amuse him.
On all of our previous cruises, we always make it a habit to stop at Buc-ee’s. They have several locations and offer gas, clean bathrooms, and a huge convenience store with a wide variety of snacks, food, and even fresh HOT foods. It’s kind of like a tourist destination! So, that was our first stop and, we stocked up on more food and drinks. I was surprised by how good the club sandwich (all I had to do was take out the tomatoes) and the chicken fajita taco was.
When we finally arrived in Galveston, Niko got to see the beach for the first time. We would’ve gone back to the beach the following day, but it was raining. But, before we boarded the ship on Monday, Niko got to enjoy the beach one final time.
For dinner on Saturday night, we ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, and it was nothing to brag home about. Afterwards, Nina and Niko went to the Pleasure Pier and rode the Ferris Wheel and Merry Go Round. Across the street, we got Niko an ice cream shake and Nina and I shared a cup of ice cream.
On Sunday, we had breakfast at the Sunflower Bakery & Cafe, and it was the best breakfast I had all week and that includes the ship. I had the Big Breakfast: Three Eggs Any Style, Potatoes, Two Buttermilk Pancakes, & Ham. Afterwards, we wanted to visit the Galveston Naval Museum to tour a WWII submarine and destroyer, but it was closed due to rain.
Of course, we went to La Kings Confectionery for a shake, candy, and popcorn. Man, that popcorn was so buttery and salty. I got a big bag and finished it on the ship! For lunch, we ate at the Shark Shack Beach Bar & Grill, and my grilled fish and shrimp was surprisingly good.
For dinner, we were joined by my parents who drove up that day and they would also be cruising with us. We ate at Gaido’s Seafood Restuarant which was excellent. I had the Combination platter: grilled shrimp, grilled scallops, and grilled Mahi Mahi.
As far as the hotel in Galveston, Niko did awesome, and he had no issues sleeping. Our room had two king sized beds, so Niko and Nina slept in one and I had one by myself. The hotel also had a continental breakfast and Niko enjoyed having apple juice, orange juice, cereal, yogurt, and toast.
