Working From Home
I have no clue on why I never thought about working from home until the Covid-19 pandemic happened. Now, I am loving it.
No more stress.
No more early mornings.
No more traffic.
No more construction.
No more stupid drivers.
No more filling up my gas tank every week. The last time I got gas was September 17th.
No more wearing blue jeans, a polo shirt, underwear, shoes, and socks.
When I worked for Chase, I started working from home in April of 2020 through February of 2022. From February of 2022 through August of 2022, I worked three days at the office and two days at home. My new job as a Financial Analyst at MUFG Bank Ltd is fully remote, and my team is located in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
My wife also works from home. Niko goes to school during the week, so, it’s just Nina and me at home, with a cat. We work well together, but since I started my new job, I have been a lot of calls and Nina either has to mute the television or wear her Bluetooth earbuds when we are both working upstairs in the loft.
Right now, my work from home office is downstairs at a desk and Nina’s is upstairs on the sofa. I even worked one day in an actual bedroom with door shut because it’s home to a lot of fabric and we don’t want Riley cat getting in there. I didn’t like being closed in. So, I moved downstairs. When Niko was home sick, I joined Nina and Niko on the sofa upstairs and when I had calls, I moved myself to the bedroom.
Now, you’re probably wondering who the cat goes to since one of us is up and the other is down. Well, he has been hanging out with me on the windowsill where my desk faces (I open the window and he enjoys the outside smells and noises – it’s protected by a screen) or a rocking chair. He also has access to his food, water, and litter box downstairs. Yes, he has walked across my laptop, but hasn’t yet made an appearance on camera. Actually, at work, I don’t use my camera and neither do any of colleagues, and I am fine with that.
I enjoy having lunch with my wife upstairs, even if she is working.
I enjoy having access to my kitchen and not a work cafeteria.
I enjoy being able to use the bathroom without anybody knocking on the door to clean it.
I enjoy using Alexa to play music. We have three – one downstairs, one upstairs in the loft, and one in our bedroom. I do miss listening to podcasts while I would drive to and from work. I can probably start listening again to music ones, but not ones where it’s a conversation.
I enjoy that when I am done with work at 4 pm, I am home! And I have a lot of time to be with Niko, especially on schooldays.
