I have always wanted to participate in NaNoWriMo, also known as NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH for the month of November.
So, I am going to do it every day this month. I have seen that it needs to be 50,000 words by the last day of the month. I am not sure I will make that, but I will do my best. Will the end result be anything good? I have no clue.
I have no ideas of what to write, and that is hard for me to write as I have been writing publicly since April of 2011 and I have three Amazon E-Books published. Who knows, maybe this will become number four.
Oh, you want to know about my books. Well, I am sorry to tell you that in order for me to read some excerpts from them, you will need to purchase tickets to my next event, and that event is TBD! I am kidding, although that would be pretty awesome if my books were popular enough that I would have to embark on a national tour. I can be the next David Sedaris!
So, book one is: The Dad Speaks: My First-Year as a First-Time Dad, and it’s exactly what the title says.
Book two is: The Dad Gets Edumacated, and it’s about me getting an MBA from November of 2019 through March of 2021.
Book three is: The Statman Speaks, and it’s about how I got started as a high school football statistician, writer, and photographer.
Oh, you also want to know what I have been writing about since April of 2011. Well, my first words I published on my personal blog, which has been defunct for a long time – but, no worries, folks, as I have a copy of everything I wrote, was:
Today, my wife and I are celebrating our 6-month wedding anniversary! If you do the math correctly, you should come up with 10.10.10!!!! Yes, we are one of the many couples that chose that date to get married.
I am so happy to have met and married a beautiful, funny, and wonderful woman and am so excited for our future. I love you Nina, my sweet darling.
It probably took me hours to write that! One of the blogs from a few weeks later was telling my millions of readers from all over the world was that I have updated my previous blogs, because they were poorly written. Hey, at least I am honest. I wrote about whatever was on my mind and getting those words typed out on my laptop screen came very easy to me and sometimes, it was hard for me to stop.
In July of 2011, I switched gears and focused on primarily writing about high school football on www.thestatmanspeaks.com. See, I was a high school football statistician, so I was already at the games. I had no game plan when I started. I just wanted to share a few pictures, write something about the game, and provide some stats. I also wrote about high school basketball, but as a spectator and I took some photographs of some two high school football stadiums getting renovated and the construction of a new high school gymnasium.
In March of 2015, my wife asked me if I liked being a statistician or a writer better. Without any hesitation from me, I replied I liked writing better. So, I retired from the Texas Sports Radio Network in 2015 and Thursday Night Lights in in 2016 as a statistician and became a freelance sportswriter and photographer. The last game I covered as a writer was in 2017. I did make a one game special comeback as a statistician in 2019.
On October 31, 2015, my wife and I announced to Facebook that she was pregnant. I switched gears again and primarily focused on writing about being a dad on www.thedadspeaks.com. And that is where I stand now in the writing realm. I publish new words every Sunday, and sometimes on Wednesday’s.
I have a few in draft mode on both sites, and they have been there for a while. So, I will bring them forward and try to make them better. When those are cleared, I have a few fiction stories I wrote in high school and one in draft mode (I actually had a dream one night and wrote down what I could remember) that will require a lot of editing! Or I can just leave them as is, and if there is no ending, just leave it.
Other than those, I have nothing else planned to write, so it will be fun for me to just go off and write about something. I am going to limit myself to no more than an hour of writing each night, because I want to do other things. Like reading and, I thought for one, I could watch all the Matrix movies as I have never seen them and write about them.
As I was talking to my wife about this, I told her it won’t be a novel, but rather a collection of fiction and non-fiction stories.
