I am a son, a brother, a husband, and now I can add DAD to this impressive list as Nikolai Lieberman was born on Monday, May 2nd. I didn’t faint, I watched the birth of my son, Niko, and I cut the umbilical cord. Pretty awesome feeling all the way around!!
I remained calm, cool, and collected before, during, and after the drive to the hospital. No speeding was involved during the drive, but had there been, I would’ve led the cop on a chase to the hospital where they would’ve seen my pregnant wife moaning in pain.
I began Monday morning not knowing anything about baby care to leaving Friday morning as an experienced Dad. The nurses at the hospital were fantastic caregivers to Nina and Niko and teachers to Nina and I. They even dived into Nina’s breasts to assist her in breastfeeding techniques — and I watched so I could learn.
One nurse showed us how to bathe and change a diaper. She also held Niko for an hour on Tuesday morning (the time doesn’t even matter) so we could get some much needed sleep. She took such a liking to Niko that she offered her services as a babysitter!!! I am serious.
