Last week, the only interesting thing that happened was that I got to pick Niko up by myself on Tuesday and Wednesday. Nina worked some extra hours at her job, so she wanted to keep working during the pick-up time. No biggie! I am the dad, and I can do it.
When I arrived at the school to get him, I noticed that almost all the other parents who were also waiting to pick up their kids, were all heavily involved in their phones. Whereas me, I was watching everybody and trying to look through the doors to see if I could see Niko as he is the tallest kid in his class. And as soon as he spotted me, he gave me a wave and smile; oh, that is the best feeling in the world. We then swapped eyeglasses for sunglasses, I put his backpack on me, and then I grabbed his hand and off we went to the car. Home in less than 5 minutes – that’s the nice thing about where we live since the school is less than a mile from us.
Yesterday, the three of us ventured out to a large furniture store and Dunkin Donuts, because that is what Niko wanted. As parents, most of the things we do are for Niko’s benefit. Very rarely, do Nina and I get to do something for us.
It was nice to get him out of the house as he has been sick for the past few weeks. The furniture store is an easy and safe place to visit, and Nina and I like that store as well as we have purchased several pieces from them in the past. Croissants, donuts, and a coffee were picked up from Dunkin Donuts on the drive home. As we were pulling into our neighborhood, Niko saw the playground and wanted to play. But we insisted on going home first to eat and Niko was cool with that. So, after a quick lunch, we got back in the car and drove the mile to the playground where Niko played for about 30 minutes. As we were leaving the playground, we heard the Mr. Softee ice cream truck, so of course, we found it behind the school and Niko and I got shakes. Nina didn’t want anything as she had coffee earlier.
Tomorrow, Nina and I will celebrate 12 years of being married. We don’t have any big plans planned to celebrate.
Obviously, I know what Nina likes and I hid it all in a rarely used kitchen cabinet. I will say, I went to three different places to get everything.
We got some Amazon deliveries and Nina told me not to open them, I guess they are for me. I wonder what it will be.
Nina wanted to get Starbucks and lunch on the first day of school back on August 22nd, but we had to put that on hold because I have been out of a job since August 15th, so we are being a bit more frugal than normal with our money. But I am happy to announce that I will be starting a new job tomorrow and will share a lot more about that on Wednesday.
So, I proposed Starbucks and lunch tomorrow. She countered with Starbucks and breakfast, so we don’t have to go out twice. I agreed, because that’s what I am supposed to do – right!
