Last Monday, Niko woke up 10 pm because he needed to use the bathroom. I don’t think he has a sense of time, because during that time, he asked me what are we doing afterwards? I was like, well, Niko, we are going back to bed as it’s only 10 pm and we can sleep until 6:30 am. I then answered again with my funny reply, you don’t want to stay up and be awake until school? He laughed at that, and a few minutes later, we were both sleeping again.
He has been waking up a little bit before my alarm of 6:30 am, and when that happens, I relax in his bed and wait for him to be done in his bathroom. He told me he is afraid of being late, and I told him not to worry about that as I have an alarm set for school.
Last Wednesday, and on our way to pick Niko up, it looked like some rain was approaching the area. I can’t really trust Alexa or the weather apps since the weather is unpredictable. But Nina and I were prepared as we brought our large Ikea umbrella and Niko’s rain boots. It was just a few sprinkles while we waited outside the school and the principal came out to let everybody know that they would start dismissing them early to avoid the rain.
Well, as soon as Niko’s class came outside, it started to pour! Nina swapped his sneakers for rain boots and as soon as Niko and I were not under the covered awning, the umbrella broke! I still held it as if it worked and I grabbed Niko’s hand and we walked safely and quickly to the car. Niko was having the time of his life and all of us were absolutely drenched when we got home.
The school is less than a mile from our house, but we still drive a few blocks and park on a nearby side street.
Since he was drenched, it was a good excuse to get him cleaned first rather than eat a quick snack.
On Thursday morning, we walked him to the hallway of his class, and then he made a right turn on his own to his class. We did look around the corner to see him without him seeing us.
On Friday morning, we walked him to the front door of the school, and he made the long walk down the main hallway and made a right turn to his class. We watched from a distance to make sure he found his classroom, and he did – I mean, he is tall!
