On Friday and after Nina and I finished working, the three of us packed ourselves in Nina’s car and drove to my parents house for a Passover dinner. At first, Niko was adamant that he didn’t want to go, but once we got him in the car, he was happy. His favorite person is usually my mom, but on Friday, it was my brother! Niko couldn’t stop telling him all about his video games and wanted to invite him over to play with him.
I stuffed myself full of Gefilte Fish, Briscuit, Matzah Brie, Matzah Ball Soup, and cakes. Yes, cakes as Nina made my dad a Lemon Meringue and my mom brought a Tres Leches cake that said happy birthday Warren and Mark – my dad’s birthday was yesterday and mine is next Saturday. Niko’s birthday is May 2nd.
One of the best things I enjoyed after dinner was packing leftovers for us. Niko got Oreo cookies and $10 cash for finding the Afikomen (just something fun for the youngest person as a piece of Matzah is hidden and they have to find it after dinner). Nina got a bag of walnuts and cooking cocoa. I told Niko I would be happy to let him choose his place to spend the $10 and we go somewhere today.
It was also the first time since before Covid that the three of us have had dinner together at my parents house. On Saturday night and as he was getting ready for bed, he told us he wanted to do it again.
This morning, Nina hid lots of eggs downstairs for Niko to find. It was fun to see his face as he came downstairs because, to be honest, I think he forgot because we didn’t remind him about it. I think he found them all and if not, oh well, we will find them eventually!
