A few days ago, Nina told Niko the abbreviated version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory while we were preparing Niko for sleeping. We also watched both movies; the old one with Gene Wilder and the new one with Johnny Depp. Niko was really interested and was actually paying attention and asking questions throughout the movies so he could better understand. I was also thinking as I was listening to Nina read parts of one of the books that Willie Wonka is very similar to the Cat in the Hat!
Nina then purchased the Roald Dahl collection of books and Niko is very happy to have us read to him before nighttime. We started Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but he already knows what happens, we finished Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator on Friday, and we just started James and the Giant Peach on Friday.
Before this, I would have to make up a story about a particular toy so I am glad he is enjoying real books, as we have a lot on hand in our house.
I even purchased an e-book biography of Roald Dahl and have a few more e-books of his on my wish list. I just finished reading the Katie Couric autobiography and now I am reading Will Smith’s autobiography. After Will, I will tackle Roald Dahl’s biography.
