2:30 AM

Posted on 09/12/202104/19/2025 by Mark

It’s 2:30 am, what are you doing?

Me, my Apple Watch is vibrating to an alarm I have set and I have to wake up from a glorious sleep full of beautiful dreams to wake up a sleeping Niko so he can do a really quick pee.

One thing I make sure before this happens is that I have a clear path to his room. I don’t want any Niko toys on the floor, because some of them can hurt me and if that happens, I will shriek in pain pretty loud.

I am very glad that 99.9% of the time, Niko wakes up immediately as soon as he hears my sleepy voice. He does get a slug of drink and if he needs a snack, I can fulfill that request; both in less than 5 minutes. If we do venture downstairs, we have some nightlights downstairs for visibility and the fridge is lit also; I don’t want any overhead lights on. You know what would be cool? If I can flip a switch or tell Alexa to turn the staircase into a slide so we won’t trip and fall down.

I am also very glad that 99.9% of the time, Niko immediately goes back to sleep.

I am also very very glad that 100% of the time, I can also immediately go back to sleep.

I don’t mind doing this because Nina isn’t a good sleeper and when she did it in the past, it takes her a long time to fall back asleep.

Can Niko hold his pee all night long? I am not sure, but we will be trying it very soon. He is able to get out of bed by himself as he does that every morning. But, I don’t think he can tuck himself in, unless he moves the blankets in such a way so when he comes back, he can just grab them and tuck. Sometimes, when he does have a pee urge earlier than my alarm or even afterwards, he screams for DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD and I get up and get him.

When it does happen; no alarm, I will be prepared with extra sheets, blankets, and pillow cases…just in case.
