So, I am on a term break from school until October 31st; I start my final term on November 1st and I am on a work vacation break until October 14th.
As for school I got through two of the hardest classes in the MBA program. One was Accounting and the other was Financial Management. I am glad to give my brain a break! It’s been really nice not having to look at school stuff since last Monday in the evenings.
I can take my time and do whatever I feel like doing in the evenings. What am I doing right now? Well, obviously, I am writing but I am also drinking water with some fruit punch mix in it and eating bulgur with turkey hotdogs. I know, not the healthiest dinner and you know something, I don’t care. I was eating better in July and since August, I have been doing bad! I want to eat better, it’s just hard for me because I like to eat, especially pasta, rice, bread, and sweets. I need to just start over and I will do it when my time off is over. I don’t have any health issues, so this isn’t coming from a doctor. It is coming from me. I have to do it for me, my wife, and my son; I want to be with them for a long term. I know I can do it. Why not start today? Well, I am a procrastinator and if Niko and I are out, I can guarantee we are going to get unhealthy fast food, drinks, and shakes from somewhere!
Sometimes, when I eat, I feel like a 4 year old, because I often eat what Niko eats; especially when it’s dinner. Friday, after Nina and Niko came home from Sea World, they got Freddy’s for lunch and of course, I placed my order when they asked me and yesterday, Niko and I had mac and cheese at my parents house. Today, he had a chocolate cone with sprinkles and I had a Big Red float from Mr. Softee and I was prepared as I had a spoon, a bowl, and a towel for him. Don’t laugh, but Niko’s iPad home screen is a Mr. Softee truck! To see his excitement when I told him earlier in the day about it was absolutely priceless.
As for work, I always feel refreshed after I come back after time off and it doesn’t matter what that timeframe is. I have already triple checked to make sure my weekday work alarm is off.
I don’t have any big plans on the horizon for myself. Just read books on my iPad, write, and maybe watch some movies on my iPad (I just watched Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody). Right now, I am reading a biography about Freddy Mercury and I already read Elton John’s autobiography.
Since Niko was born in 2016, I gave up watching movies and television; no time for it. And, you know something, I don’t miss it; not even my favorite shows. Watching my son grow up is much more important than Homer Simpson, zombies, solving a crime, or any sporting event. Yes, before Niko, I was a sports fan, I was involved with high school football as a statistician for almost 20 years, and I worked for a professional sports team and a minor league sports team. But, now, I don’t care about and I have no clue who the winners and losers are!
Even though I am off, Nina isn’t so she will be working. But, no biggie! This means, Niko and I will get to spend a lot of time together. The last time Niko and I had a lot of time together was back in January and February when Nina had surgery and I took that time off to care for Niko. Nina was pretty much self sufficient, although, I did do my job to care of her also when she needed it; mainly it was drinks and food.
I have a few things I want to do with Niko and two of those things, he has been asking about for the past few weeks. They are the children’s museum and the firefighter museum. I am planning Monday and Wednesday for those. Anything else we do will be adlibbed! Yesterday, we visited my parents and today we stayed home, but we did take a stroller walk late in the afternoon to our community center for a special treat called Mr. Softee. I will say that Niko is doing awesome at wearing a mask and I am so proud of him.
