Work From Home/Covid-19 Thoughts

Posted on 08/16/202004/19/2025 by Mark

I enjoy working from home and right now, my employer has no timetable for a return to the office. I really like that I can sleep in till 7 am and when I am done at 4 pm, I am already home. I haven’t worn blue jeans and a polo since April and I have only gotten 2 tanks of gas in my car since April. My commute to work is just going downstairs! I work downstairs at a desk facing our backyard in the morning and after lunch, I work upstairs on a recliner also facing our backyard. I have had zoom team meetings, zoom one-on-ones with my manager, training calls, I have had to share my screen with others to train them, and others have shared there screens with me.

With me being home, our food consumption has gone up and that is OK. Our food orders have been delivered by a few different companies since April. They leave everything on the porch and after they leave, we get it. Amazon has been a lifesaver for other things we need since we don’t venture out as much as we used to.

Our cruise scheduled for October has been canceled by Royal Caribbean. Even if the cruise wasn’t canceled, I wouldn’t feel safe with all the people on board. I am relieved and a little disappointed as we were going to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary with Niko. But, no worries as we will sail again next year. Maybe it will end up being a graduation gift for me.

I miss doing things outside in the world especially with Niko on the weekends. When Niko and I do go out, we just drive around and get something to eat. Niko does know and understand what is happening and I know he is looking forward to when the world is opened and safer. Nina already has a list of places to go when everything is opened up and safer.

I miss visiting my parents and having meals with them. Yes, Niko and I have done several drive-by’s where we visit them, but we don’t get out of the car; we did one yesterday. Before yesterday, we haven’t done one since Juneteenth and in July, they were both sick. My dad had it and my mom didn’t; weird. I was really concerned about it as they are older with some health issues. When I spoke to my mom during that time, I did talk to her about the dreaded D word; death. I didn’t want anything bad to happen to them. They are both doing much better now.

Lastly, please wear a mask so we can get this behind us and move on.
