Since I started working from home on April 8th, I haven’t been taking care of myself when it comes to eating. I know I am not alone in this and need to get motivated to lose some pounds. Even during the prior weeks before April 8th, my work cafeteria was providing free breakfasts and lunches to those who were still working at the office. So, I would stock up and have two breakfasts and two lunches! The portions were small.
Yes, it’s really nice having access to a fully stocked kitchen with delicious homecooked meals, bread, and treats all day long. My wife likes to cook and bake things! I like to eat her things and I clean everything up in the kitchen everyday.
Before I started working from home, I was walking everyday at work up and down 3 flights of stairs twice a day. But, at home during the weekday, I sit on a sofa or a recliner all day and work! Well, I actually do get a little bit of exercise as I do go up and down our stairs several times a day.
So, yeah, I need help on food and exercise! I think once I start doing something, I can get into a good routine.
I just need to settle down and do it for myself, for Nina, and for Niko. It will be my own diet, but I will manage my portions better, eat more vegetables, eat much less pasta/rice, and eat much less treats (chocolate, etc…). If I do get fast food from somewhere, I will be much more sensible and find something healthy.
Exercising will be harder mainly because its’s super hot outside, but I will do my best to keep active at home. If I have to set an alarm to get off my butt and do something else, I will do it. I may actually buy a Fitbit and give my Apple watch to my wife; her Apple watch may be broken. In June, I dropped my Apple iPhone and it broke. Nina gave me her Apple iPhone and she got a new one. See, we take care of each other. I don’t really need a smartwatch and she uses it much more than me.
It’s much easier to write about this than to actually do it. Now, the last concern is when do I start? Well, I am a procrastinator, so I will start tomorrow…hopefully.
Yesterday, while Niko and I were at the pool, we were talking about this and he had a great idea to help me and it’s very similar to his star chart for going to sleep easily. If you’re a loyal reader of mine (thank you), you’ll know that in May he turned into a crazy Niko right before bedtime and would run around the house and scream and laugh thinking it was a game. For those first few weeks when that happened, it took us 2 hours every night to get him to sleep and we tried all sorts of different things. The thing that worked was a star chart where if he went to sleep easily and without a fight, he got a star and with those stars came toys; small to start and at the end of 30 days, a big toy.
I will do something similar for me, but it will be done on my computer and instead of toys, I will buy myself something like clothes or something from my Amazon wish list! I will make the reward happen at the end of each month. It’s a very simple spreadsheet and basically just asks me did I eat good stuff and exercise.
