Halfway Done

Posted on 06/18/202004/19/2025 by Mark

Yesterday, I completed my 5th class at Western Governors University for my MBA. That means, I am halfway done! Five more and a capstone.

My first term started last November and that was right around the time that Niko stopped taking naps. I was planning on doing schoolwork during his naps on the weekends as well as during the evening after he fell asleep. But, reality bit me hard those first few weeks and I really wanted to quit. I didn’t want to do the work, I wasn’t motivated, and I wanted to do other things during that time like reading books or writing on my website. Obviously, I didn’t quit as I regrouped, refocused, and motivated myself to do the work because when it’s done, it will be a very nice accomplishment and I will have the opportunity to take a huge step forward in my career.

My second term started on May 1st and during that time and a few weeks prior, Niko was running around the house like a crazy maniac and refusing to go to bed; before this, he was super easy to put in his bed for sleeping. It was very stressful on Nina and I waiting for him to stop and finally go to sleep. The later he went to bed, the later it was for me for schoolwork. Just so you know, before this craziness, I was able to start schoolwork around 7:30 pm and work till about 9:30 pm. I had to be asleep by 10 pm because around 11 pm or midnight, I was waking up to wake Niko so he could pee (nighttime potty training). I also woke up around 2 am or 3 am for another Niko pee. Then, I had to wake up again at 5:45 am for work!

During this craziness, he would fall asleep around 9 pm. By the time I was able to get downstairs and do schoolwork, it was close to 9:30 pm. I was beat, stressed, and couldn’t even motivate myself to read anything about Accounting. Again, I really wanted to quit. What helped me a lot to get through were putting Accounting on hold and doing another course and having Nina doing the first shift of Niko pee. Also during this time, I was already working from home so I had an extra to sleep in on the weekdays. I will start Accounting again tonight.

Now, I will tell you that Niko isn’t doing his crazy not going to bed thing anymore and we are almost back to his normal bedtime which is 7 pm or 7:30p pm. That is nice for me because I have more time for schoolwork.
