Child Bribing – Part 2

Posted on 05/31/202004/19/2025 by Mark

Yesterday, after Niko and I had breakfast and after I mowed the front and back yard, I really wanted to take Niko for a drive to see my parents. I needed to get out of the house and since it was Saturday, I take Niko with me. Nina works on Saturday and I try to give her some quiet time for that.

I am not at the point where I feel safe going somewhere outside like we used to do. Yes, I wear a mask when we drive through someplace, but if I don’t have to get out of my car, I won’t. Hopefully, soon, I will do it because I miss it and I know that Niko does also.

Back to yesterday…

Getting Niko dressed is always a challenge mainly because he wants to remain naked (for the past few months, he has taken his pajamas off in the morning and he remains naked all day till nighttime when he gets another pair of pajamas) or he doesn’t want to go out. Hey, he has a very nice life as he gets to be naked all day, he gets food and drink served to him all day, he gets to watch an iPad or my old Chromebook, he gets to help Nina in the kitchen, and he gets to play. I would like that life!

When I told Niko to get dressed yesterday, he said NO! He wanted to stay home. And, I have learned my lesson that I can’t win this one unless I bribe him with something he likes.

So, I bribed him with smoothies and croissants from a local restaurant and he can bring his toolbox of toys and his Spiderman mask! It worked! He got dressed and was ready to go on a driving adventure.

I won’t bore you with every details, but I will say our food and drinks were delicious and my parents are great. Afterwards, we picked up a curbside order from Home Depot. Nina is building and planting lots of good things for our garden. I just do all the heavy lifting of dirt and wood.
