So, whomever at Apple came up with the idea of Facetime, I say thanks for this awesome technology.
I have no clue why Nina and I didn’t think of using it while I am on my breaks at work, but just within the past few weeks, we have used Facetime. It’s really nice to be able to see and hear Nina and Niko on their adventures.
One of the perks I have at work is FREE Wi-Fi!
Yesterday morning, I told Niko to Facetime Grandma Iris (my mom) to ask them if they had plans throughout the day. Niko found the Facetime app on his iPad, found Grandma Iris’s name, and then pushed the correct button to call them. I think Niko knows more about how to use his iPad than Nina and I. Niko can even have an entire understandable conversation!
Niko really enjoys seeing my parents and I am always happy to see them; I like them and I will keep my parents for another day. Niko gets to paint with Grandpa Warren and play, eat, and relax with Grandma Iris. Oh, he also gets to play with Fizzy, a retired yellow lab guide dog.
I’ve been letting Niko call the shots for what he wants to do on the weekends with me and yesterday, he wanted to see my parents. I also wanted to make sure he got some time to run around somewhere outside.
But before Niko and I had our adventures, Nina and I had to get our eyes checked at 10 in the morning. Niko was curious about all the fancy eye equipment and enjoyed trying on different pairs of glasses after. Yes, I got new glasses and they are fancy name-brands; Versace and Ray-Ban. Don’t judge me!
So, after our eyes got checked, Nina did some shopping on her own and Niko and I went to a new park; close to my parents house and close to where we meeting them for lunch. The park had a sandbox and Niko, being a 3 and a half year old, did what any child that age would do; he got in and had no care for how much mess he was getting in. I let him have fun and I really didn’t care about mess because I knew mom always has spare clothes for him in the car. He enjoyed it and we will buy a smaller one for our backyard.
When we got to the Thai restaurant, I had to give him a new shirt and new socks! He had a noodle dish with shrimp; although I ate most of his noodles and he ate all of his shrimp. The boy likes shrimp. I think next year when we go on our cruise, we will be eating at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company! I scarfed down my lemon chicken and even licked the plate cleaned; I was hungry.
After park and food, we finally made it to my parents house where Niko got to cook with Grandma, paint with Grandpa, play with Fizzy, and open and close the fridge and pantry for food.
Niko and I didn’t get home to our house until 5 in the afternoon; I think that was by far the longest time I have been out with the boy alone! And, we both survived and we had fun.
One last thing…
For the past few days, Nina and I have been doing a lot of donating and throwing baby toys away. We told him we need to make room for new things! Right down the street from work and on the way home is a Goodwill, so it’s easy.
