Healthy Decisions

Posted on 10/16/201904/19/2025 by Mark

Since I started eating better and exercising, I have also started to make healthier decisions when it comes to food. I do struggle a little bit at home, but at work, I do really well.

At home, I have to eat a very small snack when I come home and I can’t eat Niko’s dinner; And, when I do eat my dinner, my portion needs to be small and it must include some vegetables. That is easier written than actually doing it. I actually did this on Wednesday night. Thursday night, I wasn’t even hungry because Nina and I had a late steak lunch for our Anniversary and on Friday night, I had a bowl of turkey soup; it had some celery and carrots in it.

The weekends are easier for me than the weeknights. Yes, we do eat a big breakfast together and then we just snack for the rest of the day until dinner.

I am also drinking more water at home and at work; I am trying to ween myself off the flavor drink packets.

At work, my only temptation is the fragrance of the cafeteria which is across from where I sit; basically every-time I go to the break-room or bathroom, I have to look directly into the eyes of the cafe. Yes, it always smells yummy, but it also costs money and I don’t like spending money when I have food at my desk to eat. Potlucks at work for now on will be off limits for me. We are having one for Halloween and I will bring something, but I won’t participate.

Pasta, rice, and bread are my some of favorite food. I have given up pasta since September 9th and if I can do the same for rice and bread, that would be a huge help for me. To be honest, I think I have only had about 3 cups of rice since I started and that’s not even rice that Nina made; it’s from the outside world of restaurants or food trucks. As for bread, I am still eating it, but a lot less then before I started. So, actually, the no pasta is a huge lie as I have nibbled on a little bit of pasta that Niko has had; it’s pains me to just throw it away! Plus, what are a few bites going to do? Nothing! It’s not like I am going to eat a huge bowl of buttered pasta for a meal. See, I am really trying. But, a few days ago, I did throw away some pasta and I silently said a eulogy as I tossed it. Hey, ,just so you know, it’s been 3 days of no pasta, rice, or bread.

Whatever I am doing, it’s definitely working because I have officially lost a few pounds since August 30th. I am not the type of person who will do a daily or weekly weigh in; I will do it once a month at work. Once I hit my target, I am not planning on stopping nor will I start eating bad again.
