The last time Nina and I went to Baby’s R Us was last November when Niko was still in Nina’s womb. With just the two of us, it was an easy day of shopping and we topped it off by eating at Las Palapas (a local fast food Mexican restaurant) with my parents.
Well, when we went to Baby’s R Us this past Saturday with Niko (the cat can’t babysit him yet) and Nina’s mom (whom we picked up), we didn’t get off to a good start!!!
A few weeks ago, we purchased a convertible car seat (which is bigger than his normal car seat) and we installed it in Nina’s car since she drives a SUV and I drive a sedan — even though mine is newer and fancier. The main reason we got a new car seat was because Niko didn’t like it (by that, I mean, he cried LOUD) — he could only stand for a very short period of time. With his new one, he doesn’t hate it and he actually has fallen asleep several times in it. On Sunday, he fell asleep about a mile from Walmart (don’t judge us) and instead of waking up (because you don’t want to wake-up a sleeping baby), we drove some really expensive neighborhoods in the area and there were several for sale…but, way way out of our price range. And, we aren’t even house shopping, we just like to look. Don’t you?
Her car was having a/c issues and we got that fixed a month ago, but after we loaded up her car on Saturday with all of the supplies (for us and the baby) and started our adventure, the a/c was not cold. If you aren’t familiar with Texas summer’s, I will say it is HOT!!!! I was sweating buckets!!!!
After we picked her mom up and were about 2 miles from home, I made an executive family decision to go home and get my car. Yes, it was a pain in the ass to move everything from hers to mine, especially the new convertible car seat (which at that point, was holding a sleeping baby). I was so focused that I moved the car seat with the baby and was so glad it fit because I wasn’t sure. And, of course the baby woke up and cried which meant we eventually had to stop to feed him.
You know something, feeding him actually soothes him a lot. Conveniently, we stopped at Half Price Books because we had some books to sell to them. By the time they made us a very small offer, Nina and Niko were done with their eating session (well, Nina was the waitress) and they came inside to rescue me.
With all of this fun stuff happening to us, my parents were eagerly waiting for us to arrive at our final destination. I had to text them 4 times to keep them updated on where we were in the world. I mean, with the baby, it’s impossible to schedule an exact time because we are on his time. For somebody like me who likes to have everything planned in advance, this is quite an adjustment for me (but, no complaints from me because it is for Niko). My parents were hanging out in the stores next to Baby’s R Us. When we finally arrived at Baby’s R Us, my parents were more eager to see Niko than me and Nina.

I won’t bore you into the specifics of our antics at Baby’s R Us, but I will tell you that we purchased several onesies and toys. Niko was so tied that I found a chair and let him sleep on me…that sleep lasted about 30 minutes. I changed his diaper in the bathroom (first time for me doing it in public) and he didn’t like the automatic hand dryer. Every time it went on, he cried loud. When we were finished with Baby’s R Us, Nina fed him in the car.
Overall, once we got to Baby’s R Us, it was very pleasant. Dude when we arrived home, he took several long naps (we must’ve tired him out)!!!
This is a test comment.
