Well, Nina was sicker than we thought she was. I was planning on going to work last Monday and having my mom and her older sister come and play with Niko all day. But, around midnight, Nina woke me up and told me she was having trouble breathing. Breathing is important and we decided to go to the ER. No work for me!! On the drive to the ER, it was very foggy and I was driving much slower than the speed limit. I noticed a car tailgating me and I was like dude, if you want to pass, go ahead when it’s legal. Then, when the car eventually passed me, it was a sheriff’s officer! Nina told me they were probably running our plates and I was totally OK with that; we have a nice car, we were driving slow, and the road was extremely quiet.
Our biggest concern was what do we do with Niko. We called her mom, but she didn’t pick up. We probably could’ve gotten my parents but that would mean an extra hour of worrying for me about Nina. So, I told Nina to get ready and after I got dressed, I woke up Niko. I told him mom is not feeling well and we are taking her to the hospital and we need to leave now. He didn’t scream or cry; he marched downstairs and put on his red rain boots. Wow that was easy! I had drinks for him as well for the car and the ER.
To make a long story short, Nina has pneumonia and after some meds in the ER, she was already feeling better. The ER staff also suggested we take Niko to make sure he doesn’t have it; he has coughs, runny nose, and occasional temperature for 2 weeks. To make another story short, Niko is OK, he just has a cough which can last up to 4 weeks. On Friday, Niko told his grandma that his throat was sore and what are these things hurting me as he pointed to this throat; he also had a temperature. We aren’t taking any chances and he saw his doctor again yesterday and the diagnosis was a double ear infection. Heck, I am glad it’s something that can be treated with antibiotics and Niko was so excited because we were going to CVS for him!
Man, I felt bad because I had to wake Niko up twice on Monday; once for the ER and then for his appointment as he was still napping when we had to leave.
When we arrived home around 3:30am from the ER, Niko was very glad to be back in crib and sleeping. You’d never know from seeing him at the ER that he was tired; he was interested in opening doors and cabinets and walking around a very quiet hospital.
I did go back to work on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and we had help from her mom and my parents all week so she could rest. When I came home those days, my mother cleaned all the dishes for me and that was very nice of her. I was also able to make my breakfast, gather leftovers for lunch the next day, get lots of snacks and drinks for Niko for his dinner upstairs, and get warm food for Nina – all before nightime for Niko; mainly because Niko was so focused on playing games in his Ipad. Under normal circumstances, I only gather Niko’s food and drink and do everything else after I get Niko in his crib around 8pm. So, basically, what I am trying to say is it was very nice be able come downstairs and just eat dinner and not have to worry about anything else.
Today, Nina is almost back to normal. I am very glad I get a bank holiday tomorrow and get Nina an extra day of rest. Hopefully, on Tuesday, we can get away with no extra help.
