The weekends are both the best times of my life and the most stressful times of my life; mainly, because it’s me and Niko all day. Yes, Nina is home, but she works on Saturday and cooks on Sunday. By the evening, when he is finally sleeping, my brain and my body need a break from him.
We do a lot of eating, playing, and relaxing on the sofa where we both have our iPads (he watches YouTube Kids and I read my book).
I will do almost anything with Niko as long as whatever it is, I won’t get hurt. His favorite saying with me is “Can I do that again?” And, my reply is a quick yes, unless, there is a chance that Niko can get hurt, then I say no.
Niko is very strong and he has drawn blood on me a few times. We wrestle playfully and we have pillow parties on his bed. For the pillow parties, he likes getting a pillow and falling on me with the pillow; we do a lot of laughing because its fun! He also enjoys jumping on my back when I am not expecting it and again, we both laugh!
If I can get him in the car, we have fun taking a nice drive. Sometimes, I do have to bribe him to get in the car. And, bribing always involves food and his iPad!
On Friday, I was telling Niko what I had in mind for Saturday morning…lets eat breakfast at home, then take your red plasma truck and ride it at the nearby elementary school, and then come home and relax all day. He seemed to like everything I suggested, but on Saturday morning, he suggested a slight change…eat at a nearby park with the picnic blanket and then walk the trails. I said yes immediately. So, I packed breakfast tacos, fruit, and drinks and was ready to go on an adventure with Niko. But, he didn’t want to go, because mom wasn’t coming with us. I bribed him with chocolate chips and his iPad and in less than 10 seconds, he was dressed and ready to go! When we arrived at the park, it was closed! So, we had to change our plans and we did our picnic at the nearby school in our neighborhood. We sat on a bench, ate our food, and we watched his iPad. The weather was a few degrees cooler than it normally is and that’s because rain was expected later in the day. To burn the calories, we walked halfway around the school; by that time, Niko was tired and ready to come home. Luckily, the car was around the corner and home was less than one minute away.
Later in the day, he was so tired that he told me he wanted to take a nap, so I quickly assembled his bed and prepared everything as if it were nighttime. I stayed with him because, if he does indeed nap, I wanted to nap also! Now, I think he would’ve fallen asleep had I not been there, but it was very refreshing to just lay down in the dark with our blankets. I told him we can do that everyday, if he wants to. He actually stopped taking naps almost a year ago.
Last night, I told him we can another breakfast picnic this morning at the school, but we can bring his red plasma truck instead of walking. It all sounded good, but he woke up super early this morning and I didn’t even want to mention it to him. Our picnic breakfast ended up being upstairs on the sofa! I did get him in the car later on as we drove to our old house where Nina and I lived when we got married and then we had lots of food from Freddy’s. Niko drank his shake in less than 5 minutes!
Next weekend, I will take him to the park that was closed this weekend.
