In addition to being a daddy (and a daddy blogger) to an almost 4 month old, a husband to a very beautiful woman for almost 6 years, and a fulltime employee at Chase Bank in the Unclaimed Property Department for almost 10 years, I am also a FREELANCE writer/photographer for the St. Anthony Catholic High School football team.
I have been a FREELANCE writer/photographer since 2011 and was a high school football statistician for the Texas Sports Radio Network from 1997-2014 and for Thursday Night Lights on CW35 from 2009-2015. If you do the math, I have been involved with Texas high school football for half of my life and what a thrill and a ride it has been. I am extremely passionate for it.
My first St. Anthony game was last Friday night. I left my house at 6:30am and arrived home at 11:00pm. Yeah, a very long day and since I had time in-between jobs, Nina and Niko met me for dinner.
I was so happy to see them and I got to hold Niko for an hour and before they left for the next adventure at Target, I got to change his diaper.
At the game, there were a lot of babies and every time I saw one, a smile came across my face. I hope they didn’t think I was a creep!! One of them hit my leg at the concession stand and I told the parents, “No need to apologize. I have a 4 month old at home.” The worst damage Niko has done to me is pulling my chest hair!!! I can easily see Nina and Niko coming to a game in a few weeks when it is cooler outside.
When I arrived home, I thought they would be asleep, but nope…Niko was eating!!! I was again very happy to see their happy faces. Nina was surprised when she saw me because I wasn’t wearing any clothes. I had dropped my dirty clothes in the laundry room (which is next to our bedroom). It wasn’t a dirty ploy to get Nina…I was tired and my back and feet were sore from standing throughout the game. I was really looking forward to putting on clean clothes and was very delighted to lie down in my bed and wait for Niko to finish so he could sleep on me! Sometimes, sleep is better and needed much more than sex.
Even if I have a very rough idea of what I want in my article (I always talk to myself on the drive home), I need time to write and when you have a baby at home, finding time isn’t easy. There is just so much stuff that needs to be done.
Now, with thedadspeaks.com, I don’t need as much time because those blogs are shorter and don’t require much thought. Plus, I have a lot more readers on thestatmanspeaks.com (oh, I do get paid for writing them). If you want to give me money for thedadspeaks.com, I won’t object!!!
But, somehow I found time (usually while Nina fed Niko) to gather my words and make some sort of understandable sentences, paragraphs, and even upload 448 photos. I did have to bring my laptop in bed with us Saturday and Sunday (I have a USB light so I can work in the dark while Nina and Niko ate).
Niko did get his fair share of naps on me throughout the weekend (I didn’t ignore him and my wife…well, maybe a little bit) and during those times, I was able to relax and watch season 3 of Orphan Black. Hopefully, I will get to watch season 4 soon so you better not tell me what happens.
