Lightning Strike (Cork O’Connor, #0) – by William Kent Krueger

Posted on 07/05/202607/05/2026 by Mark

I have been reading the Cork books in order, and am sad that soon, I will be finished. I have three left as I am currently reading, Fox Creek. I got the newest one God’s Country waiting as an ARC from netgalley. Even though it says this is #0, I read it as #18.

For Lightning Strike, I enjoyed the plot and learning more about Cork as a 13-year-old, his dad Liam, his mother Colleen, his grandmother Dilsey, Sam Winter Moon, and of course good old Henry! It was very interesting to see the family dynamics of the discussions they had regarding two cases. It also ended a year later with his father getting shot and killed.

Cork and his childhood friends, discover a body at Lightning Strike, and along with his father and his crew, Cork also wants to help. Also, a young girl is missing. You could definitely see Cork’s investigative skills taking shape. Eventually, they all get solved and Cork is right in the middle of both of them!

Does anybody, by the way, have a pronunciation guide for all the Ojibwe words! I have a feeling after I finish Cork, I will start greeting people with “Boozhoo” and thanking them with “Migwench”.
