I don’t consider myself handy, but this weekend, I fixed a slow draining sink in one of the bathrooms, I built an an IKEA wardrobe for Nina (she helped), and I figured out where an annoying beeping from the garage was coming from (it was the backup battery in the garage door ceiling mount).
For the garage door, after I studied the wall unit for a few minutes, I had to ask google where the battery is located in a Chamberlain garage door unit, as I had no clue. First, I had to maneuver the car perfectly so I could use the open doors as my ladder so I could reach it. Then, I had to unscrew a faceplate to where the battery is. I haven’t yet replaced it, as I had to order a new one first. I don’t keep spare garage door batteries! But, according to The Home Depot, it should arrive Wednesday.
For IKEA, I did spend some time watching YouTube videos. Pausing it at certain spots so I could see some details, but they weren’t helpful as the person in the video was in the way of a few key things I needed help on. The wardrobe is in my bedroom, as Nina and I are going to swap bedrooms. Not to much of a pain, as I am hoping (if my measurements are correct) that her king bed will fit easily through the doors! Our dressers are heavy, but we will empty them before we slide mine and carry hers.
I am giving up the master bedroom, as she has few more things than me and having the extra room will be nice for me. Plus, the view from the master is of the backyard rather than the garage roof! I don’t really care about it, as I just have a queen bed, a huge armoire, and a teeny cheap Amazon night table, but I may bring up a secretary’s desk that I got from a neighbor who was giving it away.
Oh, I also re-attached the basketball hoop to the basketball stand. It fell over a few weeks ago, and the rim bent. I tried a few different rims, but none of them fit. So, I went back to the bent rim and with Nina’s help, I was able to get it all together. I did fill the stand with water, so hopefully, it won’t tip. But, I will also remember to tip on my own accord when I am not using it. I just want to shoot for a few minutes, nothing fancy.
I took Niko to an early dinner on Thursday at a nearby local restaurant, and after we stopped at a discount store where we got bubbles, a new cat bed for Riley, and a frisbee! That evening, I closed the sliding glass door from the kitchen to the back deck, and after I closed it, I couldn’t open it back up (and Niko was outside blowing bubbles). It’s got stairs, so we told him to use them and come to the front when he finished. Now, fixing that is not something I can do. I am pretty sure they are the original doors from 1999 (we also have a sliding door in the basement to the outside world). I tried a few hacks, and then went to Thumbtack and Facebook, and reached out to a few people and only one got back to me as he told me not something he does. Then, I messaged my lawn guy as he does everything, and he fixed it for $50 on Friday. He did have to pry off some of the framework around the door, but he put it all back. Well, maybe in a few years, we can get both fully replaced with French doors!
On Saturday, Niko and I woke up early because of the cat. He was trying to get somebody’s attention as he had no food, so the only thing he could was meow at 5:45 am! Around 9:30 am, Niko asked me if the new Minions movie was out and after a quick search at the Monticello movie theater, I answered yes. We purchased two tickets as Nina didn’t want to come with us. Of course, we got drinks, popcorn, and Niko also got a hot dog (which was actually pretty good). Besides us, there were three other people in the theater!
When we arrived home, Niko asked me if there was a Great Wolf Lodge. I said yes, and it’s in Bloomington (about an hour away) and we can look at schedules today and book it for a night. Easy!
