I was about to read Desolation Mountain, the 17th book in the Cork O’Connor series, also by William Kent Krueger, and at the beginning, there was an Author’s Note about a character named Bo Thorsen who is prominently featured in The Devil’s Bed and he is back in Desolation Mountain. So, of course, I had to stop Cork and read this book so I could get some good intel on this Bo person.
Well, it was right up my alley of thriller books as Bo works for the US Secret Service and is in Minneapolis. He is tracking a suspect who may want to kill the First Lady of the US and her father (who was a former VP of the US). A lot of things happen to Bo and his fellow agents, and the suspense of it was nail biting. Bo’s background was that of a foster child, and a judge (who just happened to be the First Lady’s aunt), granted him that foster life rather than something worse. A fellow foster of Bo’s named Otter is his closest friend. As an agent, Bo is smart and ambitious, and would do anything to protect the people he is responsible for. He is also dedicated to the job, which doesn’t allow for any type of relationship. There were some hints of something possibly between him and the First Lady, but was more of a “thanks”.
Now, I can read the next Cork book, and am looking forward to seeing them interact. When I finish the Cork books, I definitely want to read Krueger’s other novels.
