Copper River (Cork O’Connor, #6) – by William Kent Kruger

This one reminded me of the John Wick movies, but with a lot less violence. Reason being, is Cork has a $500,000 hit on him, so he has to be aware of his surroundings at all times. At the end of Mercy Falls (book #5), Cork is suspended from being a sheriff and with the help from Dina Wilner, a “security consultant” who saved his life earlier in the book, Cork disappears to protect himself and his family.

At the start of this book, it’s revealed that Cork has been hiding out at a cousins house (who just happens to be a veterinarian) as he was shot. Dina appears shortly afterwards, as Cork trusts her, to help him with two investigation’s: One was trying to remove the hit threat and the other was the death of a young girl and an older man. Throughout both, there was a constant threat of a cougar. At one point, I thought to myself, I bet the cougar will appear and harm a bad person!

It was full of suspense and surprises, and I love the three new characters of Jewell, Ren, and Charlie. I hope they may more appearances in future books.

Well, when the book ends, Cork’s hit is called off as he pulled off an ultimate John Wick performance on that old man! He resigns as sheriff and all is good with his family and Sam’s Place (his hamburger stand he owns).

As I have been reading this series, I don’t know why, but if Cork ended up being a movie or tv series, I could easily see Mark Ruffalo as Cork O’Connor.
