Yesterday, Niko and I went swimming at the local community center pool. I am always happy to take him as he really enjoys it. We haven’t been in several weeks because he was sick.
Last summer, he took swim lessons at the high school and he became a much better swimmer because of it. This summer, we are planning on more advanced swim lessons. After his first few lessons last year, he watched some YouTube Kids videos of professional swimmers (that was how he got to hear the song by Sia called Unstoppable). In school, he even said he would be a professional swimmer in a journal.
For his birthday, we got him a snorkel, and he was looking forward to testing it out yesterday, but, as soon as he dove under, a lifeguard told us they weren’t allowed. Niko was sad, but I mentioned, we will have to try it out on the lake or the outdoor pool when they are opened. Fortunately, the sadness only lasted a minute as his attention went to the basketball hoop and the balls, where he blocked every shot I took! I even got a ball to the face (yeah, it hurt). In addition to him being a defender, we played catch, we raced (he always wins), he threw rings and got them all back, and he did all of his normal swimming activities.
It’s funny, because, anytime me and him go, we always stop at the snack bar and get something for him to nosh on for the 10 minute drive home. However, yesterday, we didn’t as I promised him other food and that food would be delivered to us in about 5 minutes after we leave the pool.
While we were en route to the pool, I told him, afterwards, we can get a Chinese plate at Asian Cafe, our favorite place for Chinese, as it’s across the street. He was adamant that he didn’t want to do that as they won’t accept us since we will have wet clothes on. I told him, well, I can order online. That was one option.
Another option I advised while we were in the pool, was Kentucky Fried Chicken. That won easily! And, he was super pumped as he has only had it a few times in his life, and also doesn’t quite remember it. We ordered an 8-piece combo, with two sides of Mac and Cheese, and 4 biscuits. And, a small fry for him to eat in the car! He was so excited when we got home, that he bought the food in and immediately made the announcement to Nina, “WE GOT KFC!”
That was his lunch and dinner. For me, it was good, but not the best fried chicken I have ever had. I don’t complaint as I love to eat, and I scarfed down a piece with some Mac and Cheese and a biscuit. I am eager to have some leftovers for lunch today.
We will be back at the pool next Saturday for his birthday party along with some of his classmates. Swimming, pizza, lemonade, and a cake! I am very glad Nina is doing all the planning and organizing for it. I just have to show up and be nice! I did tell Niko not to laugh if after his party is over, if I order Asian Cafe for us for dinner! I mean, I want to make sure the kids get the food and cake. Niko was like, if you do, order something for me. When I told Nina last night, she was also like, yeah, we can order online during the party and it will be available for immediate pickup!
