I have had this one in my “want to read” list since last September, as I have already read all the prior Prey books. Last year, Sandford was my author of the year! But, this one didn’t live to my own hype and although I read it, it wasn’t as enjoyable as the others. I probably was expecting more of Lucas kicking ass, getting hurt, and shooting people. Is he getting too old for this? I don’t know.
I did like the characters of Sherwood, a CIA agent, and Shelly White, another US Marshall. I liked that Lucas had to phone a friend (Virgil Flowers from the BCA) for his advice. Shrake and Jenkins were mentioned, but never made an appearance. Oh, Del from the BCA does help a lot. I would love to see more Shrake, Jenkins, and Del books (and, obviously, Virgil Flowers).
The overall plot felt like it was taken from current events happening in the world as it involved some Russian criminals who are now in witness protection, and a Russian hit team is on the books to take the patriarch down. A lot of things happen, from everybody and of course, Lucas figures it out.
